I bought it, signed the title and insured it on Thursday. I was all set to go pick it up on friday, only to recieve a call while at work that when they tried to take ir off the show floor to bring it in to the shop to do their buffing, the car wouldn't start due to a dead battery (probably someone left the light on inside the car). So they had a SALESMAN jump the car and he shorted out the battery by putting the cables on the opposite posts of the battery. He fried the fuse block and the mechanics suspect possibly the abs module. Both parts are on order and it is set to be repaired and ready for me by Monday or Tuesday. And I have their assurance that any future electrical issues will be repaired free of charge.

So, my first brand new car, a 2016 sports car with 27 miles on it. I own it for a day, and the dealership breaks it before I can even take it home. Haha. I could choose to be enraged or to laugh about it and use the event as inspiration for the car's name and license plate. I choose the latter. Pretty soon I will be driving WiredBRZ (lol) into my garage. It was going to be JEDIBRZ, but that name and plate pales in comparison to the humorous name I am now giving it. Hopefully I can get my ft86club username changed to WiredBRZ as well.

Hey it could have been worse! At least they offered to repair any electrical issues in the future for free - if you are local to them, this could be a great thing. I just got mine in December of 2015 and absolutely love it. I am sure that you will, too!

Payment is not bad: $406/month, insurance came out to $100/month. So, overall, not too shabby.

As far as the electrical goes, yes I am absolutely sure that it will be taken care of. The fuse block did it's job in terms of stopping the surge from the battery to prevent it from reaching other areas. The car was already titled and insured in my name. There really was no swapping for another. And besides, it is a local place and I have 100% peace of mind that they are going to take care of me no matter what. And I am just not the type of person to demand all sorts of free things when stuff doesn't work out. I was simply stern with them and made sure the issue would be resolved now and in any unlikely future. I don't even suspect any further issues.

It's all good guys! Also, how careful do I need to be of pot holes with my low ground clearance? It will be a learning curve since I am coming from an old Ford explorer that had so much ground clearance you could lay on your side under it and still be able to wiggle around.

It is in writing. The whole electrical system is under warranty now. The only thing that has a lesser warranty is the battery, which is manufacturer warrantied for 1 year. Beyond that it will no longer be covered, but that is of little to no concern due to the relatively inexpensiveness of replacing a car battery if need be a few years from now. It was annoying, sure, but there's nothing to worry about from this point forward. Thanks for all the warnings though guys! Especially the one about low ground clearance. That is something I will keep an eye out for.

I just got some good floor mats for it this weekend. Can't wait to hopefully drive it off the lot today with a huge smile on my face!

I had a battery short out internally on a previous car - the shop insisted on trying to jump it, which caused all sorts of mayhem and ultimately toasted the body computer (it would randomly do the alarm honk as I was driving... lovely in Chicago rush-hour, I had to pull the horn fuse.) I drove it another 11 years after that fix with zero issues. I think you'll be fine.

Just got the call, the car is all set to go. Picking it up in a few hours. Thanks, guys! I already have plans to take it up to the UP of Michigan this summer for some cruising/camping. Can't wait to do some meetups and such! I am Oshkosh, WI based, so a Chicago, Madison, or Milwaukee meetup would be best.

I had a 2015 CBS BRZ Limited that I just sold for less than 22K.
In Alaska that is. Only 2,500 miles on it before I had to sell and stick with just one car for the wife and I.
Awesome car, If I had gotten it earlier in our relationship, I bet it would be with us much longer.

Does the dealership typically put 91 octane in the tank? Or do they put 87? Should I pick up some octane booster for the first tank of gas just to be safe? From then on I will be using 91 octane typically because 93 is pretty hard to find in my area for some reason. If anyone has any recommendations for my first gas tank, let me know!

I was using 93 octane w/ethanol and I developed the (annoying but harmless) fuel pump cricket noise. I switched to 91 octane ethanol free, and it resolved the issue.

If you can, just try to stick to ethanol free gas.

My dealership put 93 in mine like they should - I have continued to put 93 in mine every day. I put 93 Shell V-Power in mine 85% of the time and have not heard crickets on any of those occasions. The times that I did have to put 93 from another station in it (from, say, BP), I heard crickets a few of those times. Shell's 93 seems to avoid that issue for me altogether.
