I have the Malaysk rom on mine for a while. The Malaysk rom lets you auto dim, use any OBD2 dongle for torque, connect my V1 though bluetooth to Yav1, and remap the keys.
The rom is listed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=3246370 |

So, I'm somewhat interested in one of these as part of my war against analog gauges, and I'm not new to in-car PCs or Android tablet builds, and actually I probably change the ROM on my phone every other week, so I kind of know what I'm probably getting into here, but I have some questions.
The screen resolution is shit. The RAM is shit. The processor is shit. It's running two major versions old Android. It's not just the Joying. All of these head units are borderline antiquated. With that in mind, is the head unit reasonably quick at least? I just don't want hangs and glitches because the hardware can't hack it while running music, maps, and engine monitoring at the same time. I feel like multitasking these three at once is a basic requirement. Second, is there any cable/software combination you guys know of that will read from OBD/CAN at a faster rate like OFT/Ecutek do? Basically looking for near realtime feedback. Maybe I'm too demanding.

For the price, you can't beat these units. Yea, the Android version is outdated..but it's a car radio. Would I spend $1000 on a radio with Android v4, no. I am completely happy with this unit and would buy it again. I'm not sure about the OBD reading speeds. When I use Torque, I use bluetooth though I'd prefer to use USB but the USB/OBDII dongle I bought wouldn't get recognized by the unit/Torque. Look through the XDA thread and ask your question there. I don't think anyone on these boards has the kind of answer you're looking for. If you have concerns with performance, look for a quad core version with 1024x800 res. My unit is dual core with 800x400 res. |

I have the quad core and the only lag is startup. Once it's booted, everything is fast. I run Waze, have YaV1 runnnig in the background, and can listen to music videos in the background.
Torque runs same speed as your any bluetooth OBD2 adapter. There is slight delay and the data is not realtime. Before this radio, I had spent $800 on a Kenwood DNN770HD and the joying blows it away. For $300, you won't find anything better. |

Thanks for the feedback. I know paper numbers don't always equate to performance but the specs are pretty low.
So, I can't actually seem to find one by Joying with the higher res screen. I think they only make the one in the OP to fit the fatter double DIN Toyotas. |

honestly 800x480 is totally fine. It is not like you are going to be playing Shadowgun on this headunit or anything. It displays radio, gps, and video fine. The only thing I would suggest is picking up an anti glare screen protector because it is pretty reflective during daylight hours.

I also believe they keep specs down in order to keep cost down. The rockchip 1.6 quadcore is a solid processor. typically under heavy use (for myself) when I am running gps and have music playing in the background I usually am using about ~400mb of ram out of the 1024 available. The custom rom I tried that others were using had me hovering at around ~500mb.

Don't limit yourself to Joying. There are multiple brands, such as Eonon, that make similar units. I'm sure you can find one that fits.

Problem is they basically all revolve around the Rockchip processor, so they're really about the same thing. Nobody makes the higher 1080x600 res screen for the wider Toyota frame that I've found. I'm just going to order the lower res model and go for it.

So on the site they have two, what's the difference on these? Just that they included cameras?

Just ordered from their Amazon shop since I have Prime and it would get here faster. It was $300 with $14 overnight shipping to Hawaii. Wat.
