That ad has been floating around the internet since day 1. I am pretty sure it was one of the first images I ever saw It took about 20 minutes to load up on the old phone modem.

Probably. AJ invented the acoustic coupler, and several of the higher speed modems up to about 4800. After that Hayes ate their lunch with the common command language, and it was downhill from there.

My primary job was as a System Engineer (sales) for the Hyperion "luggable" computer they rebranded from Dynalogic. It was about half the size and weight of the Compaq at the time but didn't have the name recognition.



I was in the DC region. Since we had large contracts for modems/couplers with certain agencies I got to go in some pretty cool locations on sales and support visits (Congress, NSA, CIA).

They also sold the printers to Hertz that were used for their original "trip ticks". I wrote some of the control code that dot matrix printers used to print the maps and directions.
