I bought my BRZ out of state and was driving it back that evening on the highway. I was driving in the right lane minding my own business when I started to notice the traffic starting to pick up, mostly in my general area. I realized cars in the fast lane where slowing down to stare before they would speed back up and resume their normal fast lane speeds. Before I left the dealership, I'd also used blue painters tape to tape off my whole front bumper and part of the hood so the BRZ looked a little odd, almost like a concept or pre-production car. I'm sure that didn't help.

"It's a douchebag car and I feel like a douchebag driving it."
..spoken so eloquently by my wife.

She's warming up to it now, just needed more time behind the wheel.

Annddddd.... that's the first time I've spit coffee through my nose in a long, long time. Thanks.. I needed that!

To be honest, I haven't had any real feedback from strangers or friends, positive or negative. A couple friends have asked me how my midlife crisis is going... ha ha ha.. never gets old. Guess they forgot that I've been driving similar sporty-ish cars my whole life (Fiat Spiders, Celica, 325i, 560SL, etc.). In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't end up with one of the Hot Lava ones I test drove (mine's "Argento"... translation .. "The Same Basic Boring Silver Every Japanese EconoCar Comes In"); I never would have heard the end of the midlife jokes. On the other hand, if this is midlife, I'm gonna live to 110... cool.

I actually had someone driving a Maserati staring at my car hard and admiring it!
This is a long list if you ask me, but I'll keep it short...

1. Had a bunch of girls at different times in Jax beach roll by, yelling niiiceeee ccaaarrr.

2. One of those domestic car guys come up to me outside of a grocery store telling me how nice my car is and I let him sit in it since he asked me and was contemplating on purchasing one.

3. Also outside the same grocery store on another day some dude traps me in my parking spot in front of me to say "Wait that's a subaru, I thought it was a Scion, did you rebadge it?" -_- So after a deep breath I explained to him the 86 connection lol

4. Had a guy at a gas station say "Nice car man, What is that a Tiburon?" Lol. He also mentioned "that thing looks fast as hell"... But I told him the truth

5. There was this guy outside CVS pharmacy that I caught taking a picture of my car when I came out when it was parked.

This car definitely breaks necks when im in Jacksonville because they're not that popular, unlike around here in GA.

Caught a college girl taking pictures of my car after leaving a restaurant. She got embarrassed and very enthusiastically said she loved the car. My wife was walking nearby to her car as we got in separately.

I left the lot really fast and wife didn't notice me go. She started calling me to see where I was thinking I had left on some escapade with the girl.

Jealous wives can act very irrationally at times.

While getting my car serviced at toyota, 2 guys in the waiting area asked me what kind of car it was and said how sharp it looked. One was in his 30s and the other in his 70s. I think the car has a classic look which is why guys from different generations admire it.

I get the thumbs up or "hey, nice car" surprisingly quite often.

I was driving home the other night when I caught up to a white FRS. They slowed down to drive alongside me for a few minutes. Does that count? :P

I went to Sonic for some ice cream and there were a bunch of dudes sitting around eating outside. One dude kept staring at my car, when I was leaving he screamed "Damn, Daniel!"

The whole "ohhh midlife crisis car" thing gets old fast. Like you I have to remind people that I have had very few "normal" cars in my life. And yes the Lava seems to increase those comments.

Today the clerk behind the counter at Shell asked me about my car when I came in to pay for my gas. Apparently she's looking for a new car and likes how the twins look, I told her to go for it

There was a guy that works in the same business complex as I and he finally caught me getting to work the other day. " I've been wondering who drove that car! never got a chance to see you coming to leaving and I wanted to ask you about how it handles and feels." Guy in his 40-50's driving a modded Cobalt. So he inquired about the car and my experience and said he was looking into taking one out for a test drive because he wants a "new toy".

I've had a lot of people ask about the car and say nice things etc, but every time I park, people always point out the 10-Series Scion badges that light up. Of all the things that are modified and visible from the exterior, it's always the little fucking blue lights that grabs their attention. Makes me laugh every time.

The new Mercedes c class does the same thing the badges silhouette lights up and it literally draws you at night

Today on my daily run to Starbucks, as I was getting out of my car a guy in a BMW parks next to me and gets out in a hurry and says

BMW guy: holy is that really a Subaru? As he is walking around it

Me: yea

BMW guy: I can't believe that's a Subaru it's so nice, how much does it go for 65k?
Me: 25k-30k

BMW guy: wow that's not bad at all do you mind if I sit in it

Me: no go for it man (opened the door let him sit in it)

BMW guy: oh wow so this is pure sport? Is it a rally car like the other subarus?

Me: yea it's pretty basic inside and no it's more for back roads, track and autox

BMW guy: well thanks for letting me sit in it, it's a really nice car

Me: no problem and thanks
Then we went our separate ways
