UEL Header on automatic frs?

So I've been doing some research on uel headers for my car and it seems like when you install an uel header on an automatic transmission that it causes rough gear shifting. Have any of you guys had this issue? Give me your feedback on having an uel header on an automatic transmission! Thanks!

Nope can't say I've noticed rough gear changing. It shifts like it always used to

Yes it will if you have a CEL on. I had that issue for 2 days before I got my car re-tuned
edit: I should add if you clear the code it drives fine but as soon as it comes back on it shifts all weird

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback, what kind of header did you go with?

I have an AT with the Tomei Expreme/Gruppe-s UEL header installed and I love it. Manual shifting is so much fun now, especially the throttle blip downshifting from 2nd to 1st at about 10 mph. Look at this deal here, http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81839
I bought the Tomei before looking here and spent more for less. With the money you save you can get an OFT. Then I'll send you a tune for your UEL AT for free. 91 octane only, I haven't gotten into the E85 tuning yet.

Any dyno numbers on 91? I remember seeing an auto with uel(I think Gruppe-s) and it ran 179 whp

How would you say the JDL catted UEL header affects sound? I'm looking to get the same for my BRZ and am just wondering if it'll give me enough "rumble". It's hard to tell from their video clip and others.

With an AT, it's all about how much it makes BELOW 4000 rpms, since the gearing is equivalent to changing from a 4.10 FD to a 2.73 FD in a MT car. These cars should have come with 4.88 FD's stock just to be competitive, as it is, most AT's are sold because of their poor acceleration. That said, dyno numbers mean nothing for an AT, since most of the time is spent bogging the engine at 10% throttle. A dyno only shows what happens at 100% throttle not the other 99% used in real life, also I have a Phantom SC with a 4.30 FD, so it would be hard to find a comparable.

Do you mean bogged down upshifts during low throttle? I've come to conclude this happens for two reasons.

First is you can hear the engine a lot more with a header, so the revs dying down is way more in your face.

Second is the TCU is programmed to shift smooth with the stock power band. I don't think we'll be able to make it perfect until someone figures out how to flash the TCU.

.

You can get away with smoothness, buy changing the throttle map to match a manual car in romraider, the TCM/TCU doesn't like alot of the extra power

I ran the MT map for a summer, didn't really think it added anything for me so went back to the AT map.

Upshift bogging is unaffected by throttle map. Throttle map will only control how deep your foot has to be to get it to the point where it bogs down.
