What tires did you buy? Already have a couple on the list for when the stockers finally wear out.

Was going to get the Michelin a/s 3 but people have said they are pretty sticky for all seasons and that's no bueno for me. Losing that go-kart feeling will make me sad.

I'm all ears too. @jawn was saying I would be happy as long as it had a decent stiff sidewall but I still don't know jack shit about how to look for that.

A header and tune was the best thing I ever did to my BRZ, just throwing that out there.

I got the Bridgestone S-04 Pole Positions. I'm still breaking the tires in obviously, but from what I can gather already, they're stiff (but not harsh), and fairly direct. I'll update my thoughts on them after I get a few hundred miles on them. Every review that I read praised the steering response on these tires, and overall level of grip, so I'm hoping that my experience is similar. I think @finch1750 had these previously, so he'd be a better person to ask about that since my tires are still a little greasy.

I basically used steering response as my guide for choosing tires, and these tires are basically second only to the Pilot Super Sports at 80% of the cost in their category. In a few subjective reviews, some thought the steering felt more precise with the S-04s than the Super Sports. Big down-side is that there's no treadwear warranty on the Bridgestones, and most folks are reporting around 20-30K of mileage before replacement. It's acceptable to me, because that would amount to 2.5-3 years of driving for me.

Incidentally, I had the Michelin A/S3s on my last car. Very sticky for all seasons, with softer sidewalls than the Primacys. I don't know if I'd recommend them for this car, especially since they're also basically useless in the snow. Very comfortable and very grippy in dry, hot, cold, wet, but not snow. Quiet, too. They're a good tire, but I don't think that they're particularly precise. That said, they could handle 300lb/ft of torque on a 225 width, which you're basically not going to see in very many all seasons. I think of them as very good high performance touring tires.

But yeah, my personal theory on the go-kart feeling is that steering response > everything. Stiff sidewalls help in this quest.

basically what @jawn said.. The S-04 have a great sidewall and awesome response. For the price I dont feel they can be beat. My ride is a bit harsh from other stuff so I tried the Continental DW this time for something softer and I dont like the downgrade. I will be swapping back to S-04 next time. And yeah, mine lasted about 20k but could have gotten 5-7k more if not for camber wear (running -2.3 front -2.7 rear)

@jawn @finch1750

yah, I do have the s-04 on my list. Since we rarely get snow here (if we do, it rarely sticks), I thought the a/s 3 would be ok to contend with cold mornings. Reading about how mushy they are.. officially off the list now.

I took the S-04 up to the mountains for one night where it dropped below 40 will no ill effects. Not sure what prolonged exposure would do. They are pretty good in the wet (though with the CA draught that was fairly limited experiance lol)

Manga about Steve Jobs and Bill Gates! :0

Too bad I can't read japanese, though I already know the whole backstory on how they got started.

I took a trip down some wonderfully windey rock surfaced roads last summer in the Hill country of central Texas. The tires were so loud on the pavement that I had to wear earplugs. That is the sacrifice we make to have a very light car!
