Varies by jurisdiction, but if it can be proved that he was indifferent to human life (previous wreckless driving convictions actually would escalate a manslaughter charge, and this guy definitely has it on his record), then 2nd degree murder would stick.

This is the outcome of another fatal street race. Mustang driver lost control and killed people watching the race. http://www.latimes.com/local/crime/l...105-story.html
This one was also in CA. Better to leave the Fast and Furious in the movies.

It would not matter if there was a race track on every other corner the street racing would continue.
Anybody here ever drove to or from a track/strip? Did everybody coming and going drive in a nice safe manner? Were there no guys in riced out shit boxes that would never pay for track time even if they had the money in those crowds? This is not a new problem but now that there is so much more exposure it is getting escalated. Shit, I have seen trucks pulling trailers with cars on them racing as they came/went to tracks!

This topic is oddly time to me because I was just about to create a topic on keeping track/autox hobby affordable. I'm drowning here just trying to get brakes on the car and pay for track time. |

More racetracks isn't going to fix anything.
The dbags that do stupid ish on the street already avoid going to the track because they think there's too many rules and old people |

I race on the streets cause there's no rules bruv. The winner is the person who holds their foot down the longest.

Except that more tracks would maybe keep costs down a bit. When there is only one game in town they can charge a lot more. I mean maybe it really does cost that much to keep up a track, I know it's not a cheap sport, but I help put on a friends team and he spends like $700ish a race and that's not even the car costs that's just fuel/tires/entry. I mean flying small airplanes is $100/hr or more and racing is an all day affair so they aren't too far off cost wise as a hobby. The only way I could afford a track car would be to give up flying (for fun I guess I could keep the job). Now I don't go out doing 140 in rush hour traffic, but then again I do have flying as an outlet and it's thrilling in it's own different ways. Still I understand how someone who can't afford either might be tempted to find illegal outlets. I mean I'm sure most everyone on this forum didn't buy a superior handling car to drive it to the letter of law. I'm not saying doing stupid shit and maybe a few of you really do drive perfectly according to your state/ country's dmv handbook and save all your outlets for the track but let's be real what is safe is a very relative thing. Ask some people it's 30mph some is 130mph. You might get killed going 55mph just because someone changed lanes at the wrong time. I go 300mph all day long in the plane but it's statistically 100x safer than driving to the airport (knock on wood). I mean I think perception plays much more of a role than most people realize. I'd rather be driving around people going slightly fast but are paying attention than most of the idiots who would be happier in a car that drove itself. Again it's not a condoning of doing triple digits in traffic, or as someone said "out ballsing the other guy" but even the cops don't drive the speed limit because it's a silly arbitrary number that is meaningless really. It's decided by politics mostly and some antiquated pseudo science. How fast is really safe or not has so many variables, like what you can handle, your car handle, the road can handle, your RELATIVE speed to the traffic around you. And this why there is always debate and accusations. Is it racing if know the guy driving next to you? How do you determine I'm competeing with the car next to me? Maybe I am, maybe I don't give a crap what he does. Everyone in front of you is retard and everyone behind you is a maniac. Me personally I vary my speed to stay out of packs of cars because I don't trust the humans.

But, responding to the above, I find much more fun in racing other people directly than in racing the clock and comparing times. Quote:

I like spirited driving, I often go faster than most cars on the road, but if I have the slightest feeling that another driver is trying to compete with me, I immediately take my foot of gas and let him/her go first. |

The focus here appears to be on the speed of street racing when that is not really the problem. I speed everywhere (except school zones) and frequently hit speeds that are "excessive". I always have and always will and have never hit anything (and surprisingly enough still have a clean record). The issue with street racing is that people speed but are not concentrating on their driving but on their competitor. When you are so busy watching for where 'stangbro is you may as well be texting or eating a Bigmac, fries and a shake. This leads to stupid and unexpected maneuvers that result in crashes.
