Requirements for driving at a race track?

Does anyone know exactly what is required to drive at a race track? I've never driven on a racetrack nor have I done autocross.

It's different depending on what class you plan on racing in, what group etc... and such @CSG Mike knows this stuff

depends on who you plan to run with (ncrc, speed sf, etc). Check their website. Usually need a snell rated helmet from 2005 or newer, no leaks, battery secure, no loose objects.

Good primer here: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25485

Opening round of Norcal 86Cup is Sunday 3/13 at Sonoma Raceway. Would be good to go and check it out, talk to drivers. Bring a helmet and you can usually grab a ride along if you ask nicely (assuming Speed SF allows this not sure honestly).http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=101402

Just show up. That's the most important part.

There's a Norcal based 86CUP, which will be the best way for you to get introduced to other 86 track enthusiasts.

Finch, i cant remember who i heard this from but they do not allow 2 people in a car at sanoma because of a liability issue.

For autocross, you just need a street safe car, some money, and an open mind/good attitude. If you have a helmet, I'd recommend you bring that as the loaners can get a little nasty.

If you have any questions about autocross, please feel free to ask.

What group are you looking to do a track event with? Hooked on Driving? NASA? BMW CCA?

All you basically need is a car without leaks, newer tires and a snell rated helmet (SA2010+ if I recall right).

I've got about 1000 miles between Laguna Seca and Infineon between my Miata, M3, and BRZ.

I STRONGLY suggest NOT going to open track days where people just drive the track. Those are accidents waiting to happen. Drive an organized event with classes and instructors. You'll learn so much in that 100-ish miles of driving that day with an instructor next to you than 100 years of driving by yourself.

Not really true. Every open track days have experience levels as well. And instructors too. It's not a free for all open wheel full race mad max event. The only accidents I seen are are single cars. Usually someone over cooking their brakes and hitting a wall.

The down side about open track days are crowded tracks. You may luck out and get less people. Or not. You can always check how many people are on the list via their web site.

Just sgin in on the beginner group. You'll be fine. I'm pretty sure it's standard on every beginner group passing is not allowed, only on straights

So like everyone said, 100% perfect working car, a helmet and gloves.

iirc passengers are allowed, in car instruction isn't, so newbs can't have instructors sitting next to them.
