It never crossed my mind to polish an engine bay until I saw yours.

Do you use anything to coat the aluminum after polishing? Mine is starting to oxidize a bit. Not a ton but a bit.

Any insight on changing the plugs would be appreciated...either method.
Hey man, was scrolling through your thread and I really gotta say nice job. I actually just did spark plugs a couple days ago. Took me about 3 1/2 hours, but that was me taking my time and with limited access to tools (not to mention the PITA of getting the headers back on). I was able to jack up the motor about 100mm and maneuver it slightly to allow more room for whatever side I was working on. It will definitely help if you remove your stut tower braces to get a bit more room to move the engine higher. Once I got it up, it wasn't that bad.

I don't protect the finish in any way... I just polish again... it doesn't require much effort after the initial polishing.

The final install will look great polished... I wished it would have come polished though... oh well... time to get to work!

Started polishing today... here are some pics of the process:

Almost done with one so far...There is still some pitting in the finish, especially at the bends, but I don't want to take off much more from the surface...100 times better than before though.

Accomplished a little more today...I removed a lot of the pitting and deeper marks in the aluminum. I followed up what I did yesterday with the following grits:

- 400 (dry) Its what I had with me.
- 600 (wet)
- 800 (wet)
- Blue Magic Metal Polish

Going to continue with the following grits:

- 1000 (wet)
- 1500 (wet)
- Blue Magic Metal Polish

Should be mirror like by the time I'm done!

Here are some process pics:

So polishing it won't have any negative effects in terms of heat will it?

No if anything it might help reflect a tiny bit of radiant heat. Honestly if you are worried about heat wrap everything in exhaust wrap. Won't look good but it's functional. His is going to look like sex in the engine bay but could be more functional. But I highly doubt zeal will ever need that tiny extra bit of prefomance. I much rather see him with a sexy engine bay!!

I don't believe there will be any ill effects from polishing... well... maybe, the bling might occasionally blind me. lol

Btw, Blue Magic metal polish leaves a silicone film that helps protect the finish.
