2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE Packages Beef Up V6 And V8 Models

Quote:
Ahead of the 2016 Chicago Auto Show opening its doors, Chevrolet has revealed the Camaro 1LE packages, as expected.

Building from the previous-generation Camaro 1LE, the 2017 packages are available for V6 and V8 powered cars and aim to offer improved handling and better track performance over regular Camaro models.

Starting with the 1LE package for the 3.6-liter V6 equipped Camaro variants, it comes complete with revised suspension, Goodyear Eagle F1 tires and potent four-piston front Brembo brakes as standard. Additionally, the model comes complete with Recaro racing seats and can be optioned with a Performance Data Recorder allowing owners to record their racetrack experiences.

Other key elements of the package include a mechanical limited-slip differential, dual mode exhaust system, 20-inch forged wheels and a short-throw shifter.

When the 1LE package is optioned on the Camaro SS models, it also comes complete with magnetic ride control, an electronic limited slip differential and Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. These handling modifications allow it to exceed 1G of lateral acceleration. As with the 1LE package for the V6 models, the upgrades for the SS include Recaro seats and the Performance Data Recorder, albeit this time as standard.

The 2017 Camaro SS 1LE also includes forged aluminium wheels, a track-cooling package with dedicated engine oil, differential and transmission coolers.

Visually, both models include satin black across the hood, wing mirrors and spoiler. The Camaro SS 1LE also includes a Satin Graphite front splitter and rear diffuser while the V6 package incorporates satin black upper and lower front grilles.

According to Camaro chief engineer Al Oppenheiser “The Camaro 1LE packages follow a recipe any track-day enthusiast will appreciate. Start with a lightweight, stiff structure and then add higher levels of suspension stiffness and damping, more aggressive tires, higher downforce, more powerful brakes and more cooling. The result delivers better performance in all measures.”

SS 1LE package is brimming with nice add-ons. Brembo brakes, magnetic ride control, electronic LSD, Recaro seats, forged wheels and dedicated oil/tranny/diff coolers. It's a bit like the Track Package on the GT350, but that one costs $6500. Will be interesting if Chevy can get the price on the 1LE package down to $3500 like media outlets seem to be assuming.

Would be a tough choice between 1LE SS for ~$45k or GT350 w/track package for $55k.

Chevrolet’s Track-Ready 2017 Camaro 1LE Shows Up In Chicago

Click here to view live photos

Quote:
Chevrolet picked the Chicago Auto Show to debut the new Camaro 1LE packages, giving us the most performance-oriented version of the new generation model to date.

The 1LE treatment is offered for both the V6 and V8 SS models and includes all the basic goodies in order to make the Camaro more suitable for track use and generally enjoyable behind the wheel.

The smaller 3.6-litre V6 models gain a revised suspension, a mechanical limited-slip differential, four-piston Brembo brakes, a dual mode exhaust system, a short-throw shifter and a set of 20in forged wheels dressed in Goodyear Eagle F1 tires. Customers can choose the optional Recaro racing seats and the Performance Data Recorder, for those who want to keep a record of their visits at the track.

The 1LE package for the Camaro SS models includes as standard the magnetic ride control suspension, an electronic limited slip differential, Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, the Recaro racing seats and the Performance Data Recorder. These chassis mods now allow the Camaro SS to exceed 1G of lateral acceleration, according to Chevrolet.

The new Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE also gains coolers for the engine oil, transmission and differential.

You can spot a Chevrolet Camaro 1LE from the satin black hood, door mirrors and spoiler, with the V8 models also featuring a Satin Graphite front splitter.

4-Cylinder Chevy Camaro Could Receive Performance Package

Quote:
It seems likely that the four-cylinder turbocharged 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be offered with a performance package, potentially inspired by the 1LE kit available for V6 and V8 models.

At the Chicago Auto Show, Chevrolet introduce the all-new 1LE packages which it believes can outperform the mighty Mustang GT350 so inevitably, GM Authority asked lead Camaro engineer Al Oppenheiser if the turbo-four model will receive a similar performance pack.

“I’ll give you that answer by saying a surprising number of components are shared between the V6 and turbo-four, so the opportunity is there. And, to be honest with you, I would much rather have our four-cylinder customers buying performance parts out of our performance catalog or even buy something straight from the factory versus buying aftermarket parts,” he said.

With the V6 and V8 1LE packages, customers receive upgrades like improved suspension, wider and stickier tires, larger brakes and in the case of the V8, an electronic limited slip differential. All of these components have been developed to improve track performance and Oppenheiser seems keen to bring such improvements to the four-cylinder model.

“You need the aftermarket, but if you want to really get the lap times that we’re able to stand behind, it’s always best, in my opinion, to get it straight from the factory”, he said.

Any chance for a ZL1 or a Z28? preferably one that doesn't handle worse than the current ones.

2016 Callaway Camaro SC610 unveiled with 610 hp

Quote:
Following a preview earlier this year, Callaway has officially unveiled the Chevrolet Camaro SC610.

Designed to appeal to "enthusiasts who want race car performance with perfect daily drivability," the Camaro SC610 features a restrained appearance as the only noticeable exterior changes are Callaway badging and optional nine-spoke "FlowForged" wheels. Additional changes are limited but the car has been equipped with a carbon fiber engine cover and an upgraded interior that includes special door sill plates, embroidered floor mats, and Callaway badges.

Bigger changes occur under the hood as the 6.2-liter V8 engine has been outfitted with a GenThree Supercharger that was originally developed for the Callaway Corvette SC757. The model also has a cold air intake, an optimized ECU, and a TripleCooled intercooler system which consists of three different intercoolers. Thanks to these modifications, the engine produces 610 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque which is an increase of 155 hp and 155 lb-ft. It can be paired to either a six-speed manual or an optional eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Callaway Camaro SC610 will be available as a coupe or convertible and pricing starts at $54,290. Existing owners can also convert their car into a Camaro SC610 for $16,995.

I believe them too.

This gen of Mustang is a heavy pig while the Camaro lost 200+lbs.

Add to that the low end torque of the LT1 and the lack of low end torque on the Mustang and its quite easy to see the GT350 being slower.

Hennessey Unleashes 1,000hp 2016 Camaro SS

Quote:
Thought this nitrous-equipped 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS was fast? Hennessey Performance certainly doesn't, following the announcement of its full range of upgrade kits for the new model.

Typically, the 6.2-liter V8 of the Camaro SS pumps out 455 hp but with some relatively minor modifications, Hennessey can lift that figure to either 500, 600 or 650 hp. From there, a number of supercharged options are available with 700, 750, 800 and 1,000 hp on offer.

The range-topping 1,000 hp model provides an alternative to Hennessey's 1,032 hp SRT Hellcat but rather than using a supercharger and two turbos, the 1,000 hp Camaro relies solely on a massive blower.

To achieve peak horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 887 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm, Hennessey has also stroked the motor to 6.8-liters, added a 4.0-inch crankshaft, custom forged pistons, billet steel connecting rods, bespoke torque plates, ported cylinder heads, heavy duty dual valve springs and a range of other upgrades including a custom exhaust and a new ECU.

Pricing details haven't been released but all the changes are backed by a 1 year / 12,000 mile warranty.

2016 Camaro SS better than BMW M4?

Motor Trend thinks so. The car magazine that has historically always put the BMW M series above very other sport coupe challenger has chosen the Camaro SS as the superior sports coupe over the BMW M4.

http://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/resea...mage=BBqhM11|5

Plus the SS is $31K cheaper. I guess BMWs are now only good as status symbols for the "I made it." crowd or the "I want to look like I made it" crowd.

If the standard SS is better than an M4, to them, I wonder how the GT350R is going to stack up.

I'm impressed with the changes Chevrolet made to the newest Camaro. Dropping that much weight off a car is an awesome accomplishment.

I loved the M3/M4 on track, though I can agree that I'm not personally a fan of the exhaust note. I'd really like to drive the Camaro SS now and see how it feels.

IMO BMW fell off their game when they started making everything heavy and then simply adding more power. Guess what, any auto mfg can do the same thing. It's cheap to do that. Because of this strategy, the rest of the automotive world has caught up and even passed M cars on performance, dynamics and luxury. M cars are terrific, no doubt, but they're lost that intangible "special" place in the market to more niche players. Today, you have to really want a BMW to justify buying one over something cheaper, faster, more luxurious and/or more stylish. Sure some of this is subjective, but M cars used to be the special ones. BMW needs to re-think their M strategy.

GT350 - Faster
Camaro SS - Equally as fast, Dynamically Better, Cheaper
ATS-V Coupe - Cheaper, more stylish
Alfa Romeo Guilia QV - Much Faster, probably dynamically better, more stylish
MBez C63 AMG - Faster, meaner
RC-F - More stylish
on and on...
