Had the unit installed for a few weeks now and enjoying it. Was wondering if anyone has a fix for the built in weather widget on the home screen. I believe I read somewhere that the app quit working but Joying was unable to have anyone come in and fix it because they were celebrating the Chinese New Year. That has passed and I still have not been able to find any info on the net regarding it. Any ideas?

Try that before anything else, I wasn't a big fan of this unit with the stock firmware. Replacement firmware does things like improve and change the home widgets, expands the width of the music folder/track list and adds a bunch of settings etc. Do your MCU as well.

Joying released a new firmware with fixing that issue, however I have already installed the mentioned ROM as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=3246370 Best thing ever, and you can use 16GB instead of 1GB for app installation. |

Yeah so I went ahead and updated to the latest fimware that they stated would fix the weather app...all they did was remove the app and put some quick hotkeys in its place. I'll probably be looking to do a custom ROM at some point.

Which firmware did you install?
Use one of the latest here. Make sure to select one for the correct chip and resolution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=1410 One of the bullet points is Fixed Weather in standard launcher (Thanks to the Russian forum 4pda - vitarkananda ) There are a lot of different ones out there, I think I am using one that has the Klyde launcher. Try a few out until you find one that has a home that you like (layout, widgets, etc). |

Will that one work with the stock android already on the unit or do I need to do a clean install of someones ROM for the headunit. I downloaded the fireware from joyings website that said they fixed the weather issue.

A good way to look at it is it completely replaces the OS. Firmware=OS, MCU=BIOS

So with this firmware I can just throw it on an SD card and install it like I would have installed the update from Joying? In the stock recovery?

I'm not sure what instructions Joying gave you, but the way I do it is put the file on your micro-sd and put the card in the GPS slot. If I'm not prompted, I reboot and it asks me if I want to upgrade.
There's plenty of instructions/mods/cool stuff here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2660662 |

There should be no restrictions on it as these firmwares are meant to be tweaked etc. Do you see a performance impact from this? I don't notice in most cases, but if I'm streaming music and open waze it will hiccup a bit. I may upgrade to the latest this weekend.
You should also do your mcu if you haven't already |
