Bikes.
I can't remember my fastest lap, but I know I did sub 1:10s. I think my best was a 1:08 or a 1:07.
On the race bike I was short shifting into 4th before the sweep onto the back straight, and was hitting the limiter coming onto the back straight, up into 5th then back to 4/3rd (can't remember) for the fast right to go up the hill.

So those speeds seem more or less right for a 600.

*Raises hand*. I'm feeling a bit intimidated. People will probably push harder when they're getting timed. I'm either going to hit the rookie class and try find space in front of me, or risk the higher class and hold up people behind me. It's definitely going to be a hectic day mentally, and your advice about not burning out early is sound.

As for mechanicals, I'm doing some minimal prep and inspection this weekend. My brake fluid is looking brown and nasty (will post pics tomorrow), so the idea is to do a full flush. I probably also need new transmission oil, soon. If I take it to Toyota and tell them I'm getting a grind at high RPM, and they need to take a look under warranty, how long do you think it would take them to book the car in and do an oil swap?

Tick-tick-tick, final countdown started

To whet your appetite, here's how you run sub 1m10 at the Z.

This is Wayne Hay's video from Sept 2010 (Subaru Sti), and he'll be there in full force on Sunday challenging the other 500+hp Scoobies.

^ That's what my old brake fluid looked like after I drained it. It wasn't quite as dark as it appears on the photo, but it's still pretty gross.

So today I had quite a surprise - a puncture! Luckily I managed to make it to a tyre shop before closing time (just-just), and they plugged it for me. It was a nail . If I couldn't get that sorted out in time, I would've been dead in the water for tomorrow! They say the mushroom plug they used is rated for up to 300km/h (however they tested that). Also, it was in the tread, and not the sidewall. Inside of the tyre appears undamaged. If anyone thinks it's still a bad idea to drive tomorrow, please tell me :P

As an aside, I forgot about their policy of the "complimentary" tyre shine. Holy crap - it was like black wet tar that they smeared all over. Some onto the rim, some onto the tread. Washed it off as soon as I got home, but it had already slung a bit onto the paint . Sis.

You can really tell I was messing around waiting for a clean lap. With a fastest time of 1:29 and a 2nd best of 3:15 (LOL), it's pretty obvious that there was a lot of traffic.

As soon as there was a gap - I grabbed the opportunity and timed 1:21.6. I'm really happy with that, because I had one shot and made it happen.

Then - why hang around in all the chaos? Called it a day and went home :P

That queue though....

Well done Ruben!!
The on-track traffic was the big challenge, and despite that, you got a new PB - very nice.
Actually, all three of us Michelin Cup 86's achieved new PB's for the Z - howzat

Aaah.... racing.... always someone moaning it isn't fair, or someone cheated. Except of course if you were part of the old V8 supercar series.

The amount of guys they caught with over-bored engines and strange fuels and little chassis modifications was crazy

Michelin Cup SA 2016, event 2, Zwartkops Raceway, 28 Feb 2016
My best lap from yesterday (1m15.912) which was good enough to win class T2.
Not sure where I ended up overall - I'll share the full results when they're published.

nice, the best I managed was a 1.23.xxx something like that, too much traffic.

I had an awesome day none the less..

I need to make some changes to the car, had horrid understeer, but I think playing around with the tires and some alignment should make things alot better.

Final Results
Michelin Cup Challenge
Zwartkops Raceway - 28/02/2015

I must say that I take comfort from knowing that all the guys who beat me have got a lot more bhp than I have

"Some say" that those Scoobies are running 300+wkw

Interesting to see the Scoobies caned the Noble M400 which was giving it horns, but maybe got put off by being "wrongly" black flagged... and forgiven. I've got video of that, I'll upload it.
