Meh, Honda just loves ruining what people love about them.

If you're going to make it look like a hatchback, just f*cking offer it as a hatchback.

The coupe, especially, should be a 3 door hatchback. That tiny trunk opening is borderline useless.

Honda Set To Recall All 2016 Civics In The U.S.

Quote:
Honda is set to issue a recall for the brand new 2016 Civic in the United States, potentially affecting some 34,000 cars.

The official recall has yet to be announced but to limit the damage, a stop-sale notice was issued to dealers in late January.

Website CivicX.com claims that the impending recall relates to missing or miss-set piston rings which may cause engines to stall and potentially, fail altogether.

Details about Honda's proposed fix aren't available as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration first needs to approve the recall plan. Once that is done, affected customers are likely to be notified in mid-March before repairs start soon after.

Word about the recall comes less than two months after the 2016 Honda Civic was named North American Car of the Year.

Honda Stops 2016 Civic Sales, Might Announce Recall

Quote:
The new Honda Civic will reportedly head back to dealerships as the automaker plans to announce a recall.

Honda issued a stop sale last week, as the 2016 Civic vehicles apparently suffer from a condition that might lead to engine failure. The action affects models equipped with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit and has nothing to do with the 1.5-liter turbo mill.

"While the specific details of this action are still being determined, American Honda has provided preliminary information to the NHTSA and intends to provide more details in a formal notification to NHTSA on Friday, February 5", said Chris Martin, Honda spokesperson, to Autoblog.

A CivicX post claims to have the document detailing the fault, which purportedly states that 34,000 units of the 2016 Civic are affected by this action. The cars apparently have missing or miss-set piston pin snap rings, which can cause engine stall or failure.

The document states that dealers will inspect the potentially affected engines with a borescope, but since parts are not yet available, the recall is expected to begin in March.

Honda's new Civic was crowned 2016 North American Car of the Year and a week later, IIHS awarded it with a Top Safety Pick+.

Honda builds prototype Civic turbo w/ manual trans

Quote:
Honda invited me to come and drive the new, stylish Civic Coupe this week, in San Diego, California. Unfortunately, driving impressions from that event are embargoed for another few weeks, so you’ll have to wait to read about how the car goes down the road.

But the Civic Coupe wasn’t the only piece of news that Honda brought to Cali for us. Far from it. Available for very short driving tests was a prototype version of a Civic sedan, powered by the new 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, and managed by a six-speed manual transmission. (Hat tip to Michael Schlee of Autoguide for the picture of the car.)

For those of you not up on this 10th Generation Civic, that’s a combination we didn’t expect to come to life. Currently the sedan can only be equipped with a manual transmission if you opt for the most-basic version, and only with the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter engine. Every turbo trim comes with the CVT, an acceptable unit for most drivers, but a real buzzkill for Honda enthusiasts looking to exploit the new car’s excellent handling profile.

Now, Honda didn’t give any detail about the prototype; not when the turbo/manual combo might be offered for sale, not if it’ll come with the coupe and/or the sedan, and not which trim levels it might appear on. But just the fact that it exists in the world is pretty good news for three-pedal enthusiasts. The 1.5T is a really fantastic engine; giving it a transmission worthy of your favorite driving roads really opens up Civic to another category of buyer, I think.

Expect to hear more about the Honda transmission excitement as plans get firmed up.

It's gonna take them over a year to develop the turbo engine + manual transmission. That's freaking retarded and incredibly lazy.

Honda readies its new Civic Hatchback for Geneva

The car is apparently a ways off, but it'll still be nice to see Honda's vision for a more capacious five-door variant.

Quote:
When Honda debuted its new global Civic, which marks the car's 10th generation, it said there would be three official variants -- sedan, coupe and hatchback. We've seen the first two, and now we'll see the third (in prototype form) in March at the Geneva Motor Show.

Of course, seeing the car doesn't mean it'll be arriving in dealerships any time soon. According to Honda, the car won't launch -- at least in Europe -- until "early 2017." Considering it's being produced at Honda's UK manufacturing facility, we'd bet on a slightly later arrival in the States.

The teaser image seen here doesn't give away much, but it does look properly aggressive, with the same design language seen on the Civics sedan and coupe. The center-mounted tailpipes could even hint towards a high-performance model -- both the Si and Type-R models have yet to show their faces. Then again, being a prototype, anything is possible.

Wife and I checked out the new Civic sedan while the RDX was getting serviced this past weekend. I'm looking for a cheap lease car and wanted to see check out Accord's. Jumped back and forth between the updated Accord and Civic and I gotta say - I prefer the Civic over it by a significant margin. In some bizzaro twist, I can actually fit in the back of the Civic - I can't in the Accord. Didn't drive the Civic but I prefer the 'cleaner' dash and cluster of the Civic. I predict it'll cannibalize sales if they don't separate the two quickly. It's a far cry from the Civic of yore. TrueCar shows target price of $17,782 for an LX CVT & $19,182 for an EX CVT - give it another year and $16,9xx will be attainable for an LX.

That's tremendous value considering quality, residual, refinement, etc.

And it looks much better in person than photographs, especially in white.

Honda’s 2017 Civic Hatch Caught Undercover; Could Be The Si Or Type S

Quote:
After the first photos of Honda’s Geneva Motor Show Civic Hatch Concept, we bring you scoops of the actual production car, which looks surprisingly similar, right up to the central-mounted dual exhaust tips.

Even the wheels and the body-kit that includes front and rear aprons, plus side skirts and a roof spoiler are identical, though, we can’t say for sure if this prototype maintains the concept’s sizeable front and rear bumper air vents behind the camouflage.

Put one and one together, and you’ll probably arrive to the same conclusion as we did, which is that what we’re seeing here is a performance model, possibly the Si or Type-S, that will be positioned right under the next range-topping Type-R hatch, that we spied late last year with an ever more aggressive wide-body kit and triple exhausts.

This performance variant of the new Civic hatch that targets the VW Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST is believed to sport a milder version of the Type-R’s sizzling 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC four-cylinder unit, making somewhere in the neighborhood of 230 horses, connected to a six-speed manual transmission, though an automatic may also be on offer.

We should learn more about the production car in a few days’ time when Honda presents the Civic Hatch Concept in Geneva.

First Photos Of Honda’s New Civic Hatchback Concept

Quote:
Honda will give be giving us a modestly exaggerated idea of what their 2017 Civic Hatch will look like with a concept model at next week’s Geneva Motor Show.

As you can see from these low-res, but official images that popped up online, the Civic Hatchback Prototype is nothing more than the production car adorned with a stylish body-kit that gives it a more aggressive appearance through the modified bumpers, side skirts, chunky alloy wheels and lime-green accents.

The design is a continuation of the new Civic saloon (already on sale in the USA) and coupe models with the same cues on the front and rear ends, though the hatchback’s smaller footprint and differentiated roofline afford it a more dynamic stance.

There’s a strong chance that the study may actually be previewing a sporty edition of the Civic hatch, possibly even the Si or perhaps a Type S model, which is rumored to get a de-tuned version of the next Type R’s 2.0-liter turbocharged four-banger, producing somewhere around 230-horses, to go up against the VW Golf GTI and Ford Focus ST.

For the European market, Honda has already confirmed two new VTEC turbocharged gasoline engines with a displacement of 1.0-liters and 1.5-liters for the Civic, while in North America, the hatch should come with the 1.5-liter turbo and the 2.0-liter turbo VTECs.

All Civic hatchbacks will be built by Honda at its Swindon factory in Britain.

Honda Unveils Next-Gen Civic Hatchback Prototype

Quote:
While the all-new 5-door Civic is making its global debut in Geneva in prototype form, Honda wants us to know that the production-ready model will be soon to follow.

The new hatchback will be 30 mm wider, 20 mm lower and 130 mm longer than the current model, while also featuring wider wheels. According to Honda, this will give the car an assured stance and an overall dynamic appearance thanks mostly to a new and "provocative" design.

At the front, the new Civic comes with large air intakes, while LED headlights and the DRLs are tucked nicely beneath the sculpted bonnet.

The rear of the car features distinctive C-shaped LED lights and a bumper design that incorporates angular creases and vents meant to showcase an overall more aggressively-styled compact car than we were normally used to seeing from Honda.

"We knew that we needed to create a striking and stand-out exterior design that challenged conventional European compact styling while staying true to the original Civic’s core values," said project leader Daisuke Tsutamori. "The result is a marriage of distinctive and sporty design, rewarding driving dynamics and versatile practicality."

The all-new Civic hatchback will come with a range of three powertrain options: 1.0-liter & 1.5-liter VTEC turbocharged petrol engines, and a revised 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel unit.

The petrol engines are based on a completely new structure and sport developed turbo systems and variable valve motion technology, thus reducing friction and achieving better output and environmental performance. In fact, Honda is using the terms "class-leading" when referring to them, but we'll have to wait until they show us some numbers that back up those claims.

Though a global product, Honda's 10th generation Civic hatchback will be built exclusively in Europe.

It's like the opposite of Mazda's design language. Simple and elegant vs. complex and tacky. I want to like the new civic but I think the rear design is horrible.
