Ideally what I'd like is that rubber spray but in c7p red so it looks stock, the black I applied previous did an awesome job of preventing stone chips to the lip, though, I suppose I could just order a new bumper from Toyota and slap it on if it got really bad

![]() Finished up the modelling for the laser mounts, printed off a set (this is v3, and the last version!) next up, mounting and configuring them on the car, should be fun!, might do a DIY write up once I'm done in case anyone else wants to add them to their car. For those interested, the cost for the electronics is sub $20, the parts you can probably get printed at shapeways for $10, so under $30 for the full mod. If I do a DIY I'll include the 3D data so people can shop around and get a good price / choose their own material for the mounts. Parts used so far (with recommendations for your own builds!) 2x 650nm 5mW Red Laser Line ($5) 1x El-Cheapo Car to USB adapter (cig lighter port) ($3) 1x 1m of Red/Black wiring ($2) 1x 10 pack of M3 10mm bolts, nuts and washers set (flat round top type) ($2) = note, you only need two of these, if possible you'll want to get a 10 pack of M3 5mm bolts to use too) 1x 5 pack of M5 x 12mm bolts (1cm wide flat topped) ($2) 1x 5 pack of M5 nuts with toothed base ($1.50) Total (without 3d printing parts) $15.50 And this is basically how it works. ![]() Note that the lasers are patched in to the 12v fed to the parking camera, which is stepped through the Car to USB guts down to the 5v needed for the lasers, the lasers are mounted and pointed towards alternative sides to give the cleanest line possible (pointing them along each side without passing them over each other would result in the beam casting way too far behind the vehicle, or starting off crisp and splitting wider and harder to see as it moves away from the vehicle. Reason for patching in to the rear parking camera is to have them activate only when the car is reversing. I know a lot of parking cameras and head units feature a parking line overlay which basically does the same thing, but hey, LASERS!, why not? besides can you imagine peoples reaction when you start backing in to a parking space guided by red beams and not even be sure where the beams are coming from? So I have scrapped that design completely, and what i'm doing now is mounting them in the towing hook holes.
![]() ![]() The lasers are basically sunken in to these holes and only the tips show, so the covers can be placed over them if needed. However, why stop there? (like I would). Going to print a frame for the plastic tow hook covers that is operated on servos, so when you stick it in reverse, the covers lift open james bond style and shoot the beam on to the ground, then close once you leave reverse gear. Means extra weather protection!, and quite a show for anyone behind me... |

Decided I'm going to design my own widebody over fenders for the rear.. So expect an assload of concept photoshops, will use this post (edit) to add them all rather than spamming multiple posts, don't want to cut or go super wide (yet) so I'm looking at around 2-4cm additional width on rear, around 2cm on front, figured I'd give it a try before going full widebody.
The laws here are strict and my rear wheels stick out past the fender by around 1.5cm for tyre, 1.8cm for rim, I don't really want to change wheels, so a full body kit that needs 10.5j+ all around just isn't what I'm looking for right now, if push comes to shove though and things don't work out, I may just bite the bullet and go full rocketbunny v1 minus the wing. It was the red rocketbunny that got my attention for this car in the first place so I guess it fitting. If I do go that route though, I'm going molded or fully embracing the rivets and using big hex nuts instead. And of course, supercharged. |

Just a quick question on your now scrapped tow hook idea.. How were you going to get straight laser lines parallel with your car with that angle?
