Most recent was changing spark plugs a few months back. Took me longer driving around to find the right size socket then it did to change the actual plugs (except #3, that one kknda sucked) |

1. At least one trip to the store for a tool you didn't have (or you've lost). 2. At least one trip to the parts house for a part that you didn't have or that didn't fit. See, you've already done due diligence on the tool, so now you just need to do the same for the lug nuts! Hang in there, buddy. Cold beer when you're done!

Or broke. Even if advertised as "unbreakable".

Speaking of auto upgrades/repairs, this was my college experience with a buddy and our cars:
* Get up early Saturday morning to work on said car or cars. * Discover that a special tool was required and that we had to go get the tool before proceeding. * Discover that the part we bought was not the right one, or that it was made incorrectly. (This was in the days before the internet, so you could just go down to the local parts house or speed shop to get what you "needed".) * Get the right part this time. * Spend the next several hours struggling with whatever the installation/upgrade was, usually without any instructions to guide us. Also without such conveniences as transmission jacks. (I learned to bench press 1/2 of a 3 speed Ford Cruise-o-Matic automatic this way. I'm surprised we didn't kill ourselves.) * After several attempts, finally get the car running again, take it around the block once to be sure that everything was OK (at least for the moment). * Shower and change clothes. * Go out with the car. About 50% of the time, something would go wrong and we'd have to go back home. Other 50% of the time, cruisin' and trying to meet women. While we were out, get something to eat, which we had not done all day. * Next Saturday, repeat procedure.

question for all you home DYI'ers. I need a non stick clear coating paint for some 5 inch aluminum rods, i thought about teflon (although its hard for me to find definitive clear coat teflon) or silicone. Any other ideas?

How non-stick does it have to be? A clear enamel is pretty non-stick as it is, if you get the surface consistency right.

Oh. Engine enamel comes to mind, but engine enamels require a primed surface. A clear coat engine enamel is not likely to stick well to bare aluminum.
You could use a firearms finish, like DuraCoat. You don't need a primer, but you'll need to scuff the surface up with a scotchbrite pad and fully degrease it. I've never used the aerosol version of these, but I have used it out of an airbrush and it's extremely oil/chemical resistant. Unfortunately, it also takes 2-3 weeks to fully cure since it's not a bake-in finish. http://www.houtsenterprises.net/product3475.html |
