Whew! What a rollocoaster of a story. I don't think that the BRZ would have worked out with you because of your whole family situation. If I had kids I would've stepped right out of the BRZ. The BRZ is a Driver' Car.
It was and still is the right car for me. As I could care less about power, I'd rather have balance and handling on my side. Besides, you see mustangs everywhere, I wanted something that not everyone had.

There was a modded one at one of my track days last year and it was surprisingly quick.

Not to gush on about them, but you can also get Mountune performance packages installed either by Ford or by Mountune directly without voiding the factory warranty. Really though, I don't know if the thing needs it. While there is a bankruptingly long list of things I want to do to the BRZ, not so sure I'd change anything on the Fiesta at the moment.

I leased a '14 ST and finally was awarded a full refund (lemon law)
With the Cobb AP, it was a freeway beast but that was about it. Just leased a '16 Halo White FR-S in Santa Barbara, CA! I won't bother preaching to the choir about how an underpowered sports car > an overpowered grocery getter any day. Here are my top 10 reasons not to buy the ST: 1. Ford 2. Ford 3. Wrong wheel drive (and no differential so most of that power only routed through the wheel that was slipping the most in turns) 4. Truck ride height 5. 3250lbs 6. 5 door 7. Ford 8. SYNC 9. Lift-off oversteer 10. Ford |

I agree, the Focus may not be the car you really want, but it is the car you have. Get on the positive side of equity in the car, and when the time is right look for the best deal. Buying a leftover model new from the previous year is a good way to go. I bought my fully loaded 14 Limited for the price of a base model premium because the 15 was coming.

If he is planning on getting rid of the car as soon as possible I would leave it stock. You never get your money back on mods and a lot of buyers would prefer that is was left stock for warranty reasons.

This is good advice, and I am sure this isn't what he wants to hear, but I waited until my kids were out of college before I went back to a sports car.
