dashcam footage legal status

(I searched the forums, not exhaustively but for a reasonable amount of time, and haven't found relevant thread. Apologies if I am a lousy searcher)

Has any forum member in the US successfully used their dashcam footage to convince a police officer, an insurance company or a judge that the fault wasn't theirs when there was no other evidence? In a word vs. word situation?

Is such footage actually admissible in court?

Does it depend on jurisdiction, e.g., if in what state (or under federal jurisdiction) the problem happened?

I had another close call yesterday, there was no one around except me with my wife and the red-light running driver, and I am wondering if dashcam footage would help me if there was a collision and the other driver disputed their fault.

There are a bunch of threads on this but they are buried with weird titles. A lot of what you want to know is indeed based upon jurisdiction so you are best to check your local laws.
Many here have had great success using the videos for various purposes but I would be very careful using them to try to fight a ticket unless you know bloody well you were in the clear. Introducing anything into evidence can backfire very easily. As far as for insurance purposes they probably can not be beat!
