Now if you get paid in US $s came up here and bought one and took it back THEN you would have paid $19K yes.
The opposite would apply if you went to the US and bought it with Canadian dollars. If you went across the border and bought one for $27K at the current rate it would seem that you paid $38K. Anybody selling $38 Twins in the States?
Does your pay go up and down based on the US dollar? If you make $30 a year then buyng the car cost you most of a year's pay not just half a year's. The money from the exchange rate doesn't just magically disappear during the transaction and in Canada a Canadian dollar is one dollar.

Wow; my message was severely misunderstood judging from these reactions lol. The point of me including that isn't to imply that it's how pricing works, but rather just for convenience. If someone else told me that they bought something solely for the good price, but then told me it was 500000 yen, the first thing I would do is just simply convert it to get a rough guesstimate on the value that they paid to understand why they mentioned it. It's not to meant to be HURR DURR haha look at Americans paying so much for the car.

I managed to get my '14 in 2014 at $29000 on a lease. That price was the cash purchase price, and I have 0.9% interest.
Yeah, I don't really mind that it's a '15 since it's 99% similar to the '16. '14s are fine too if you don't mind the strangely non-jdm sized exhaust tip. However, I tend to avoid first iterations of cars just because there's usually a lot of simple QoL issues that get fixed in the subsequent years (tail-light condensation for example).

I point it out because what you said is deceiving to the guys in the US. They think you only paid $19500 for the car. You didn't pay $19500 for the car you paid $27000 for the car. Not a bad deal but certainly not the great deal it would have been at $19500. Converting does NOT give a "rough estimate to the value".

Tail lights were supposed to be fixed for '14, but I'll still get condensation sometimes.

So you're just posting it to tell us that the exchange rate sucks for Canadians?

Good to know, I'll be sure to not be paid in Canadian dollars for my next paycheck.
