Drove to work yesterday and the highway I drive on had 241 crashes (according to police report on radio). Did it again today and there were only 189 crashes. These are Canadians that are supposed to know how to deal with snow. Almost every vehicle I passed in the ditch was an SUV or pickup truck. The "storm" in that video hardly qualifies as light flurries (not exaggerating) there were 8 inches on the city streets when I left this morning. I was one of the only cars to make it off the street without problems. In fact I had to get out and help push a BMW SUV (what ever the hell they are called) out of the way to get around a corner.

Wasn't it the late 70s when the fwd/awd started? I remember the quattro system being all the rage. At least that was a legitimate innovation.

I still say fwd exists solely because of lower production cost. Everything else is just marketing hype.

Not a fan of recent c-west kits. They're too busy imo

Yeah, that vid snow wasn't bad. We had worse snow storm than that. Prob they didn't have time to rec.

Not gonna try to compete with Tcoat here; I'm long since convinced that Canada has harder winters than southern Norway.

But that video? They're driving in what would be nice, early spring weather here.

I would not hesitate to drive any vehicle with good, even brakes on 4 or more wheels with winter tires on those roads in those conditions. (As a young boy I drove a motorcycle through a winter and I'm not doing that again.)

This is my 4th winter with a GT86 and I haven't had any problems, and that's a lot of kilometres in much worse conditions on much worse roads than what that video shows.

Any AWD with good clearance and winter tires will perform better in deep snow or on an icy hill climb than my GT86. I mean, that's obvious, isn't it.
But any car will do just fine in 99.9% of the stuff nature throws at us here.
As long as it's got winter tires and is driven with some basic skills.

Oh I think we are probably on par with you actually having overall longer and colder winters. What we usually get is piles of snow because we are surrounded by the Great Lake. This year is very strange since the lakes have no frozen over and it has been very warm so we have had no snow. Now the temp has dropped and all hell will break loose because of those nice moist wide open lakes.

I think most people in Norway have winter tires because those who would choose not to, knows that if they have an accident and the car has "insufficient traction for the conditions it was driven under" (or something like that) they will be paying fines, lose their license and/or doing jail time (depending on circumstances) plus the risk of having their insurance terms voided.

God damn... That's crazy. But it's for the safety of everyone else around and you'd be very stupid to not have winter tires.
