Ah, sponsorship deal. That explains it.

Maybe it's because Vossen wheel and Nitto tires were backing up this project, and they gave this set. I dunno.

No way, they're right there on top, middle of the valve covers. I had a coyote mustang too, just not a Boss. I can see it being a pain on an LS-series where they're down by the exhaust manifold, but not with the Coyote in there the way it is... There's nothing in the way that I can see.

On a related note, I'm having issues sourcing lots of 1UZ stuff, and I saw the coyote first fire video several weeks ago, idea wheels have been turning.

Noting that they apparently did a cut-and-weld hack job on the oil pan.... Why not just use a Canton front-sump?

Wonder if they had to relocate the MT82 shifter or if it just lined right up? It's really easy to relocate as is, and the stock remote linkage is begging for reinforcement anyway... The way the article is describing the shifter feel it sounds like they may have dropped the MGW unit on...

MGW is a good fix, wasn't to impressed with the Chinese getrag and the feel....the MGW made a difference for me. Brain farted on plugs.

We all do that haha.

Pity so few people tore apart that MT-82 transmission, there were only a few really small things wrong with it; it didn't deserve the bad rep it had.

It needed a more solid linkage - Blowfish and MGW race spec did that just fine.

With some really minor internal upgrades it would hold all the power shifts and abuse you could throw at it. Stamped shift forks needed re-welding, and all the plastic shift pads and shift stops needed replaced with brass ones. After that, it's better than any transmission I've ever driven... The synchros are good for any RPM you can throw at them.

Having been a former owner of a Coyote V8 powered Mustang I can get behind this, however I wonder if the increased weight over an LS series engine would be worth it. Also, the chinese Getregs are known to be pretty unreliable so your cheap 6 speed option would be out.

To their credit, it doesn't look like they were trying to build a racecar. More like a project/show car. What purpose does it serve, other than being a cool demo? I have no idea.

Cool car when competing for highest numbers. And, low key looking to boot.

In reality, probably a barely manageable time bomb if you hit the accelerator slightly too much.

Would be fun to drive with extreme care.

Quote from build article:

"Understand that Tasukon was forced to dumb down the throttle nearly 20 percent at speeds slower than 30 mph just to retain some semblance of grip and drivability"

As to the wheels, I bet they picked something that looked similar to stock wheels. This thing was meant to fly under the radar.

The good news is that many such swaps now carry over the electronic gas pedal. Many a big power swap has ended up with twitchy low speed throttle response due to the mechanical linkage design that might have been less than ideal.

And while it would be sacrilegious to most of this crowd, I would have built it with an auto-tragic gearbox, cause when you have that much surplus power, why shift your own? Plus the clutch ended up sucking in this case, as do most high performance clutches.

Would love to go for a drive and see how it compares to a V8 Miata.
