brz prices in sweden need advice on comparison

they have started selling the brz here in sweden it comes fully equiped only options are automatic and metalic paint. im getting a 6mt so auto is no option really.

car costs 309 000SEK = 42 916 USD (inc all taxes and stuff. no extra costs.)

included in that price is 3 year warranty and a 3 year service deal. you also get a garage cover.

but im also very interested in a camaro 2ss 6mt (v8 428hp/ rs ss package in the states) they are sold here in sweden as well.

cost for a brand new one is 379 000sek = 52 638 USD

i know they are completely different cars but you seam to get to much more for so little extra cash if you get the camaro. how do they compare in the states? are camaros much more expensive then a brz or is there just a small difference as here? camaro is 22% more expensive but you get twice the hp.

guess it all comes down to fuel costs... fuel in sweden 93 (called 95 here) is 14,3 sek per liter = 7,5 usd/gallon.

but still i have like 5-6miles commute to work takes 10min. so gas prices dont really matter, but still sucks when you make a stop at the pump.
i have a car now mazda speed 6. uses 13liter/100km so it should be close to the camaro in fuel costs. will have to check if there are any big insurance differences.

(on a comparison a new 2012 golf gti dsg (235hp) costs 348 000SEK = 48 333USD

i think they screwed us with the pricing on the brz here in sweden what would you do if you where in my shoes go for brz or camaro??

A Camaro IS more expensive in terms of price, maintenance, fuel costs, and insurance here in the US as well. I would say the BRZ in terms of everything I said + aesthetics and suspension.

The price difference, percentage wise, is very similar. Well equipped SS is around $35,000. But these two cars are worlds apart in everything else. We all know about the specs. of the two and how polar opposite they are, so i'll give you my opinion from a different angle. PERCEPTION everytime I see someone driving a Camaro/Corvette I can't help but think they're trying to compensate for something else. So this isnt lost in translation I mean the size of your "hood ornament". Its like they're all way too tough and think their car is better than everyone just because of horsepower numbers. They are pretty cool looking, and definitely a nice engine, I just cant get over the stigma of a Camaro owner. IMHO
And no this is not why I'm buying a BRZ.

note. camaros are rare in Europe and Sweden. you will see 5-10 times more porches then camaros.
also its a question about me fitting into the car. was not to happy with my old prelude head was rubbing the inner roof. drove 2 honda s2ks. would fit but barley and was not comfortable. tried sitting in a gen2 mazda mx5. barley able to get behind the wheel. iv sat in a camaro and it has plenty of room all over. only bad thing is visibility but it also kinda made it cool. looking out thru those small windows.
im 193cm(6,4?) and 110kg (240lbs)

there's a thread on here about a guy test driving an Ultramarine FR-S, he was 6'3" and fit in it comfortably with plenty of visibility. So you should have no problem with the BRZ

sounds awesome. yea iv heard 6,4 should be no problem. but i wont belive it untill i testdrive it! :-D

I think there is a guy around here who is 6'7 and he is quite happy with his FRS.
Also 42k is not so bad for Europe, BRZ is going for almost 48-49 in Moscow, Russia right now.

The pricing on your side of the Baltic Sea seems quite reasonable, actually. Here in Finland we pay 47K EUR = 59K USD for the Toyota GT86 and 49K EUR = 62K USD for the BRZ. Options are the same - everything is included and you only pick the color and transmission.

I wasn't too happy when this pricing was announced and considered buying something else despite having waited for the FT86 for so many years. After a quite thorough price comparison with a lot of similarly equipped hot hatchbacks and RWD coupés, I ordered the 86 anyway.

As a FR-S owner, I love it. The camero, although it has way more power, lacks in many other areas. It's size makes it hard to maneuver even at low speeds. Parking one was horrible. Not to mention the bad sight lines in the front, rear, and in the blind spots. The c pillars are just awful.

As far as fuel consumption, the twins are about 20% more fuel efficient than the mazda speed 3. If I'm not letting my car out every time I drive, it manages 34 mpg highway, 30 combined.

uppdate. today i test drove the toyota GT86. and i did fit really nicely into it. first small sports car from japan that fits me nicely. talked with the dealer managed to drop the price a bit under listing. white pearl with red/black interior incoming in September sometimes. final price after the generous deal was 286 000kr same exhange rate as used before = 39 100 USD.

I'm 190cm, and even with a helmet, I've got still a good head room, and my legs never touched the wheel !
FYI, the BRZ is quite the same price in Switzerland, 42k$US with metallic painting and delivery for the 6MT full option.

Congrats on the purchase. It is good that there is a bit of flex in the price. You are getting alot more than the FRS in the US so its probably worth the extra dollars.

Fuel savings will be money saved that can go towards modifications. The only thing I see is passing will require a bit more aggressive downshifting. I drove around Sweden in a 140hp Volvo wagen and it did not seem overtly pathetic so I think you will do fine with the 200hp.
