Super Bowl 50 Broncos VS Panthers

Thoughts on last nights game. Personally I am happy that the Broncos won as this may be Manning's last game. What a way to end your career with a Super Bowl 50 win, 200th career win, and matching rings with your brother. Also congrats to the Panthers for a great season.

As a Pats fan, I am disappointed my team didn't make it.

That being said, grats to Manning, he is a heck of a QB.

Von Miller is the most dominate defensive player I have seen since Lawrence Taylor. That man is a wildman.

It sorta saddens me to think Peyton may be done (I think he will retire). As I get older (I will be 36 in April) I sometimes project my mortality on the athletes that I grew up with.

Peyton and Tom are not much older than me and I have always felt plenty young until the past year or so. I finally feel my age. I lift weights a lot and am into fitness. But now when I hit it too hard, my body lets me know for a day or three now.

Seeing Peyton wrap up his career makes me realize my guy Tom probably isn't that far behind him. Hell just 2 short years ago Peyton looked like he would play until he was 50.

I kinda view Peyton and the Broncos beating Cam and the Panthers as a win for the "Old guy".

It was also good to see "Old Fashioned Football" beat out this new fangled mobile dabbing quarterback thing.

I was rooting for Carolina. I like Peyton but didn't feel he did anything to win the game (except maybe the last few mins). I think he's a legend but I do think it's time for him to retire (sadly).

On a side note...for some reason I didn't feel this superbowl was huge. I didn't feel the frenzy this year and also thought the half-time show was weak. Is it just me or did it feel like it was very short?

i agree with you Bronco's defense won the game. Half time show was indeed weak as fuq.

I honestly didn't care who won this one. But I gotta admit, it would have been nice to see Manning throw at least ONE TD. Good for him getting the ring though I guess. I have zero doubts that we'll be seeing Newton back multiple times throughout his career.

...Also, this was the first halftime show in god knows how long that I could actually stomach. I can't stand all the big hooplah-foo-foo crap that seems to drag on forever... They came out, played a decent track, gave note to 50 years of SB, and dipped out. 10/10 in my book.

Also agreed. There was little excitement in this game mostly because of how poorly it was played by both QBs. I mean, they really turned in shit performances. Both defenses were good, but Peyton's absolutely shot arm and Cam's overthrows and boneheaded decisions made the defenses look better than they were. Also Carolina's lack of creativity and aggressiveness in play calling made this one a snore. Both teams looked like they were playing not to lose. Somebody needed to tell the Panther's one team has to.

At least the Broncos defense stepped up enough so Manning's craptacular performance would go largely excused. He was carried and he knew it. You could see it in his face from the second quarter on. Sitting on the bench sulking. He has nothing left in the tank and his body has never looked skinnier (probably had something to do with the lack of gear in his diet).

Carolina, omg. You talk about a predictable offense. How many 1st down counter gap runs to the weakside was Carolina going call? I counted at least 4 if not 5. All of them for <2 yards per. The Panthers were 2nd and long almost the whole game because Denver could count on this play coming, every time.

And don't even get me started on Cam not diving on his 4th quarter fumble. He looked like he started towards it, then backed-off! WTF? Either this guy was on the take or he is seriously not ready. Maybe next time... oh wait, there won't be one because the Seahawks are going to drop this team on the regular again for the next decade.

Bad game, bad half-time, bad commercials and that HORRIBLY OVER THE TOP national anthem made me want to throw a shoe at the TV. Off went the game and on came Battlefront. At least then I could only be disappointed in myself.

BOOO!

The only thing from the game that made the news this side of the pond was Beyonce.

And, as a football fan, I am disappointed that you or anyone else is a Patriots fan.

In all seriousness, I kind of came around by the end of the season. They were a great team, and Brady was very gracious when they lost to Denver in the playoffs. It was really heartwarming to see him and Peyton talk after the game, more than just a quick congrats. It was obvious they respected each other. Kudos to Brady for handling the loss well, and not throwing tantrums as I've seen him do in the past. Belichek's (sic) attitude always bugged me, too, but I may be in the minority there. I value sportsmanship and selflessness above pretty much all else; to me, that's almost secondary to how well you play.

ABsoLUTEly. Cam Newton is a marvel; very impressive all around. On the other hand, ummm..... "team"...... if you rely on one player to make all the plays, you're not going to win any championships, especially if that player is somewhat neutralized as Cam was. I haven't seen him throw as inaccurately as he did in this game before, either. He didn't seem comfortable with the pressure of the "Big Game," nor with the pressure he was getting from the defensive line. It was a great learning lesson for him; you can't learn everything from being ahead and winning easily most of the time. You learn the most when you face adversity, loss, and struggle. He learned a lot. I expect great things from him next year.

A truly enjoyable game. Now, would Lady Gaga please leave the planet, leave the National Anthem alone and untouched, and could we interject a little class back into the half time show instead of having a bunch of idiots jumping around, twitching, posing and mugging for the camera, and in general acting like a bunch of hamsters on meth? I've got an idea.. let's have some MUSICIANS make music during the halftime show next year. You know, folks that can play things that don't need to be plugged in, sequenced, programmed, or "sync'd" ... folks that can be interesting and moving by just standing, playing, or even singing w/out choreography or light shows or suggestive costumes. The combined Armed Forces chorus during the opening was the only thing worth listening to.

What a bunch of crap. Thankfully, I only saw a few seconds of it here and there; I walked my dogs, got some beers, put away some food, got more food. MUCH better use of my time. Heck, this is THE championship game. Why not have a championship marching band play? I don't exactly view marching bands as the pinnacle of musicality, either, but it would be WAYYYYY better than the all-out full-frontal assault on intelligence and taste most recent halftimes have been. Marching bands and football games have been linked forEVER. Let's make the Super Bowl a chance to showcase champions from that link!

Codgingly yours,

Codger
