10 pages about an Official badge swap... A couple comments caught my eye.
The $20k goal was in a magazine from 2007. Even 8 or 10 years ago doesn't inflate the value enough to cover the difference. Toyota/Subaru never hit the price or weight targets from the rumormill. I don't remember what their internal targets were but they were close if I remember right. There are several decent cars from hothatches to american muscle in the sub $30k market today. Only one is a "traditional sports car" and that is the MX-5. The designations are just marketing terms that were made up to sell cars. I never placed any more or less value between Scion and Toyota badges. Even the Subaru badge doesn't mean much to me. I don't place a lot of emotional value on corporate badges. |

Isn't pretty much any branding some form of a "marketing gimmick"? That's pretty much the definition of branding.

As an outsider who doesn't live in the Americas I never quite understood why on earth Toyota re-branded some of their own cars which to many in the world are perceived as class leading, highly reliable & bombproof. Almost everyone on this forum knows that the FRS is really an 86/BRZ designed, engineered & built by Toyota/Subaru !

I don't like the Toyota logo. It still looks like a chrome uterus to me. |

Apparently they choose to name the Scion FR-S: The Toyota FR-S. Missed opportunity if you asked me:

If anyone payed attention, they were going to test the GT86 moniker here and see how it worked. No guarantee, but they are looking into this.

If they follow through with naming it the Toyota FRS, we are still going to have people switching emblems. Now it'll just be swapping the FRS for a GT86 badge!
