Still in support of 86, though.

By volume of cars sold, there are probably many more 86's and FR-S' on the road than GT86's as the car has sold poorly in Europe. North America swinging to Europe's naming convention makes even less sense when thought of that way.

  • Toyota 86 in Asia, South Africa, South America and Australia;[1] GT86 in Europe; both of the preceding names in New Zealand; FT86 in Nicaragua and Jamaica
  • Subaru BRZ worldwide;
  • Scion FR-S in the US and Canada.

That doesn't change the fact that GT86 is still a popular term to refer to the Toyota twins, though.

I don't think we will get the GT86 spec car. By the sounds of it, it will still be called 'FRS'.

//not going to read thru the entire thread. But Supra would be cool. Along with some horsepower.

I think the term "86" is synonymous with the Car everywhere in the world except here in the US ( Apart from the enthusiast crowd that is)
FT86
86
GT86

So unless the car sold more in the US than the rest of the world. We should definitely be using "86" in the car. I don't even care if its called FR-86 or something

I don't understand all these people voting for GT86.. You want your Japanese car in North America to have the euro name?

My guess is GT-86, considering that the forthcoming little brother is named the S-FR and big brother has the FT1 monogram. Then again, there is the FT-86 II concept to think about. Think I'll just wait and see.

LOL all this talk I never, ever thought to bring that up!

We only had a very small selection of Scions here ever really. We also have only had Scion from 2011 (as late as 2014 in some areas)

The S-FR has not been confirmed for production yet and it is still very questionable if it will come over here if made. The name of the FT1 will change once out of the concept/design stage (again if actually made and if brought here) just like the FT was changed for the 86. What those two will be called is anybody's guess. The FRS is probably staying the FRS as per the link a couple of posts up.

This car will never be a high volume seller - upgrade the quality and make it a Lexus...the baby Lexus; and call it the Lexus SRF. Take that Subaru...
