The service advisor said I could drive it with the tech, but I have a busy week and won't be able to do that until Friday, so I would rather they just properly test it themselves.

Update from the dealer:

"I received your email. I let the
car run for 17 minutes then drove
for a few miles. Let the tech listen
and we do hear the noise now. Will
update you later or tomorrow.
Thanks
Steve"

Mark, sorry to hear about your situation. That sucks. Bad.
I had a similar service experience. Nothing really got done until the field engineer showed up and I had a discussion with him. If you continue to feel like they aren't giving this the attention it deserves, request an appointment with the field engineer the next time s/he is in town.
Good luck.

yeah. I think the biggest worries with this car are related to it being a boxer engine. 90% or so of the twin owners have never owned or worked on a boxer. Me included. The D4S is also a mind-bender. It makes so many different sounds it freaks us out easily.

I kinda like the diesel sound it makes warming up though.

Yeah I think the clattering is normal as mine has been at it for 50,00kms and hasn't blown up yet. The burble and pop sounds are from my tune and exhaust.
