What did you pay for your car?

Off main topic but on sub topic I have 5 people coming in for interviews today and the very first was for 10:00. It is now 10:09 and no sign of them. Not a great start.

I am waiting on them not the other way around, although at this point even if they show up I will just send them on their way. I will never make anybody wait! If I want to hire you I want you impressed with us as much as you want us to be impressed with you. If anybody made me wait more that 5 minutes for a scheduled interview I would get up, politely thank whoever was around for the opportunity and leave. If they really want to talk to me they can call me back and schedule a time when they will actually show up for the appointment.

Oh I know you're the one waiting. I was just putting it to other situations where I have had to wait for interviewers. And I would have loved to put it to then for making me wait, but when you're just out of school and desperate for a job, you'd wait lol. Engineering did not help my GPA at all for the first 2.5 years. Business on the other hand was quite awesome, but that's because I was into the coursework and wanted to learn it. Still not enough to fix my GPA from engineering, so I was desperate when I graduated. Luckily, I've been working at a job I really like for almost a year now. Almost didn't get it, but education trumped experience in my case.

Talking about someone who has boats, credit card debt, home, and a cottage and goes to Vegas every year and hopes to have it paid off by retirement. I know that's a dangerous mentality, because I had the same mentality then I got wiser because of it. My focus is on a bigger picture

Okay going back are re-reading, it was you.

Maybe you didn't have the economy bomb drop on you like we did in the in the US but I saw a lot of people, even rich people lose everything, cabins, beach homes cars, houses, everything and wind up on the street. You couldn't find a job fast enough to pay off the debt you had if you carried debt. And thats the going south im talking about. You can't find a job if there are no jobs


If you can pay it off by retirement, all power to you ,but on the average when folks pack that much debt, they keep it till they die

Saw it with myself and saw it with many many more. The US was crippled when the economy crashed. Everyone was affected even the rich.

It all depends on the amount of debt you have vs the collateral/capital you possess.


If shit were to truly hit the fan for him then yes he may need to sell the boat and one car and cancel the vegas trip for a few years. He could also downsize the house or the cottage to make up for loss of income but in no way would he lose everything if he isn't completely over-indebted.


I lose my job tomorrow and can't get another for a while then the BRZ might eventually have to go but I couldn't foresee a situation so dire that I needed to get rid of my house and my toys (guitars, pc, golf gear, etc).


Also keep in mind me and Tcoat are Canadian so we would still have some income (although much lower) if we were to lose work for some extended period of time. Sacrifices would need to be made but at the end of the day it shouldn't cause any of us to lose all that we own.

I've never hired anyone who didn't show up on time for the interview.
The last one said "sorry I'm late, but this place is very hard to find."
So I told him "We're a consulting firm. We have meetings all over the city with clients in locations that are a lot harder to find than this tall office building with our logo clearly visible from far away on either side.
So what we do if we're going somewhere we haven't been before is very simple. We're early.
Then we wait outside or in the lobby, review our presentation or whatever; and step through the client's door at exactly 2 minutes before the scheduled time.
Oh, and this interview is over. Good luck and goodbye."

When we are recruiting we look at education very closely. We do not however care in the least if it is relevant to the position (in most cases that do not involve engineering). What we are looking for is if it was completed, the grades received and any extras applied to that diploma (Dean's list, Honours, etc) since these things can all reflect a person's work ethic and learning ability. We can train you in the subject matter if you have the ability to learn but can not use you if you are not willing or able to do the work required to learn what we need. I have an honours bachelors degree in political science and a diploma in social work that good enough for you? I'm looking for something new that pays as well or better than what I'm doing right now. hehehe (half serious though)
