![]() I made a plate to mount a water meth nozzle, also a spare port for boost reference.

Bumping for more 86 specific information since I'm on the verge of adding a kit.
So far on my research it seems Alky Controll and Aqua-Mist are easily the best with their failsafes and injector control. However I'm not so certian I want that complexity. In past boosted cars I've ran Snow Perfomance's kit. It like the Devil's Own and AEM kits run off of a boost reference. I personally have never had any problems with this type of setup. I am wondering on this platform with the port/direct injection switching if I should just stick with this more 'basic' setup. In the past the only failsafes I had was a led indicator light on the pump +12 to make sure it was running and a low level float installed in the tank 3/4 the way down. Most of the builds I've seen with water/methanol on the twins seem to be running PTunning's AEM based kit and not a more complex kit. Thoughts from owners?

old thread but some new q's. I'll do my best:
I'd recommend against Aqua-Mist. I have one, essentially their 4-D kit with the LM-1 gauge with failsafe and overboost, and have an assortment of nozzle sizes from .6mm to .8... What a fucking pain in the ass it has been over the years. I'm dumping it and staying away from meth unless i'm having extreme detonation and unregulated heat issues to combat. I had one high-speed valve go out on me after a few months, the pump and tank had to be relocated to fix flow issues up to the injector, and the wiring was not the most compatible with other ecu's and needed a separate controller. While I'm sure it was a regional issue, I could never order single failed parts, I had to contact a vendor for a whole set of parts, most of which I didn't need. Now onto the other questions - if you add methanol, you absolutely need to tune specifically for it. First to axe all the naysayers of methanol, I do of course agree that 100% methanol is unsafe; this is why you keep it 50/50 (water and meth, and don't trust that colored pre-mixed shit from fake performance stores), which some people have gotten away with without a tune because it is less strong of a fuel mixture and isn't prone to pre-detonation. Do not be fooled however, your car untuned with any additional fuel may actually prove slower than it was without. Your car is not healthy when you are not having the ignition and timing based on a specific diet of a mixture of fuel and air. I learned this through a very long and arduous process of learning everything the hard way. I started experimenting by first using methanol as an intercooler replacement in a turbo application, and the extra fuel with the cooling allowed me more tuning options. It included lighting my garage floor on fire, pulling off on the side of highways to adjust my tune, and always having to rely on having that extra 5 gallon drum of methanol in the garage which can't be had for less than $8-10/gallon nowadays. All that said, i was able to run some really aggressive timing, and I loved the smell of high-octane un-catted exhaust in the mornings...

Won't using pure distilled water as opposed to a water/meth mix give you some of the same benefits without affecting the tune? Water's cheap too.

Quote:
Methanol is usually mixed with water for 2 reason, excelent cooling and it is less hard on parts than straight methanol. Injecting pure water will not net the gains the water+meth will give. Methanol is a FUEL with a very his octane rating. Remember Air+Fuel is what you need for more power. Injecting straight water will not allow you to run as much timing or boost than injecting 50/50 will yeild.
