I've finally persuaded the wife to approve the purchase and have been using cars.com to find out how many are still available. Cars.com currently shows 93 nationwide, but I know that number is at least 95 as I found a couple dealerships in CA that each have one and don't list on cars.com. Of the 95, 29 are in CA and 25 of those are close enough to me that I could spend a day traveling to get one.

I've talked two dealerships advertising at MSRP down to invoice price ($27K) before tax/title. Ideally, I would like to pay $26K or $26,500. Do you guys think that is doable? Would anyone be willing to post what they paid prior to tax/title? I would especially appreciate any info from those of you who bought in CA.

I also want to pass along that Joe Spitz, a car salesman out of Carter Subaru in the Seattle area runs an excellent Subaru website and is really helpful. He has all kinds of useful info on there, but here is his BRZ page:

http://www.cars101.com/subaru/brz/brz2016.html

Thanks for any help in getting me into the club while preserving my marriage.

Daniel AKA Mugsy

Although mine is a rare case, I paid 25.9k before tax and title. Rare because there were 2 in the lot but the owner only wanted to pay taxes on one at the end of the year. So they marked one down to move it out and it definitely worked. 26.5k seems like a reasonable offer unless they don't want to budge because of the already existing markdowns. They didn't want to budge for me but it's understandable.

Fixed! A little electrical tape, you can hardly tell it's a different shade of black. And much easier to take off if the law has an issue

As many of you guys keep saying, you gotta see the car in person to truly appreciate this color. I went and looked at one a few days ago at a local dealership. The asking price is msrp ($28495) but when we got down to talking numbers they came back with $30,500 stating dealer markups, (I almost walked out at this point). They came back again with the msrp price but no lower. I was hoping to get them down to 27k but they will not budge. Is this fairly normal? I understand there is only 500 of these but from everything I been reading BRZs are a bit soft now with mostly everyone who wanted one already bought one. I quoted around and have gotten pricing back that's under 27k for other colors. I was really hoping to get the Hyper Blue but not at msrp.

In my area, the dealers have a couple sitting around, seems like not that many people are interested. I was able to get below invoice before the end of the year, about $26.8k. But if that is the only one in your area, you are just going to have to wait it out and haggle I guess.

I would laugh in their faces. I paid close, but still under MSRP even though I'm in Hawaii. There's literally no dealer that is competitive here. They have no reason to even mark it down the small amount I managed. Try another dealer.

The only problem is there is no dealer that has one within 100 miles, there is a few roughly 500 miles away but different state and would be a logistical nightmare for me to order it that way

Well, do what you want, but if they have no reason to be competitive, then they probably won't be. I'd plant the idea in their head that you're looking at the other dealer now. Mind games work both ways.

When I bought my Golf R, I had them get it all the way from Cary, NC when I lived in the DC area. It wasn't that bad, I had the option of picking it up or having their driver handle it for a small charge. You could probably have it shipped, too. Just saying you shouldn't abandon your options if it saves you money.
