Oh WHAT. Maybe this was why. I had to cancel that card I used last month because someone was charging up a storm on my card...

this is why I use credit cards for online purchases and try to avoid my debit card whenever possible. Usually credit card companies are good about sending a new card and reversing any fraudulent charges that stem from these cyber attacks.

reading things like this reinforces the idea its worthwhile to totally get a new set of numbers every so often. despite the inconvenience of updating those recurring monthly charges with new numbers.

In that case, might as well have a separate card only for automatically recurring bills.

This is why I prefer using PayPal over handing credit/debit card info to small businesses with limited resources and cheap insecure software.
They are far more likely to have problems like these, and if they do then PayPal is an extra layer of security.

Even if you get full access to the database of a webshop you will not find enough information to withdraw money through PayPal. The transaction details are one-off and can not be reused in any way.

It has been purchased with your credit card and will be mailed to someone else shortly.
