Not really. Those events all happened throughout my 30 year career. But they do make the point that the response to Sheep's question about "death by perfume" is probably a big yes.

Simple solution "Freecell". My very first aerospace job was watching automated thermal vacuum chambers. They ran themselves so a person was redundant and only there to "put out fires". (kind of like a security guard at a used diaper recycling plant....) The head of the department gave me the tour and said "Here is the console where you will sit for 12 hours every 3rd shift". "The official policy in our department is NO READING". "Here is the hidden cabinet full of a couple hundred novels... Enjoy". I could read a full novel or two per shift. They knew there was zero chance of staying awake on a 12 hour third shift having nothing to do but stare at the wall and listen to the drone of a multitude of Helium Cryo pumps. |

I actually have nearly picked two separate kinds of fights at my workplace: 1 - the "professionals" that feel it is OK to wear flip-flops to work. I used to sit by the printer and there was a production lady that was printing CONSTANTLY and every time she got up from her desk FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP pause ...... FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP-FLIP back to her desk. Repeat every minute or so. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE THINK IT IS OK TO HAVE SHOES THAT MAKE A NOISE. I wanted to get shoes that make a fart noise with every step and see which people thought that was weird. 2 - The FAT LADY that fills a GIANT bowl of candy at her desk every single day. I feel that she needs to justify her eating by providing the entire floor with candy so she doesn't feel so guilty. And I mean a FEW POUNDS every single day. She literally needs a cart to bring it up from her car weekly. The MADNESS! |

Wow, after reading some of these I feel incredibly blessed that I share an office with the my chill 86 y/o boss. We just work away, without saying much and every once in a while I have story time with him about his youth, war, founding of the company, etc. The worst I have to deal with is old man farts, but I find it hilarious as he's too old to give a shit letting one go in the presence of others.

Speaking of job, people say I should look for another job requiring similar skillsets that pays more. It gets frustrating when I hear that because while I do love money, I am also a very lazy person and current job pays well (for my age/skillset). Going by the mantra of "grass isn't always greener on other side". Also, they tell me to never be content with my current standings, but I'm pretty content right now. My dad told me if I ever got a job that makes more than him, stick with it.

Part of my job for many years has been the investigation and correction of harassment claims and it never ceases to amaze me what some people call harassment (I still have to take the complaints seriously though). The number one complaint I have received is the very popular "Bob/Bobette is staring at me". This complaint is almost always presented by somebody working on a line where the other person is working right across from them. I would love to be able to just slap them across the head and say "where the fuck should they look" but that would not go over so well. The other big one is people complaining that supervisors are watching them and/or sending them to jobs they don't like but are within their job description. I have spent countless hours sitting in rooms with complainants and union reps explaining that these things are the very definition of "supervising" and the guy is just doing his job. Mind you these things do help break up my day every once in a while and in the greater scheme of things are probably the easiest to deal with.
