The funny thing is that, in 2 years, when reviewing old pics, you'll find that very few are good. (something like 0% or 1% maybe)
That's the case for my picture anyway :p

This is the biggest difference for me between film and digital. Stuff up a shot with digital? Ah well, doesn't matter. Just take another 20 pics and it'll be right where as getting it wrong with film and it was like oh no, there's that frame wasted. I know this doesn't apply to action pictures but that rarely applies to me.

I definitely enjoy the flexibility of digital but I really miss the hands on aspect of film: developing the negatives and being in the dark room.

Lo and behold the best compromise (damn you compromises *shakes fist*) for me seems to have been announced:
http://www.43rumors.com/ft5-panasoni...ctures-leaked/
1" sensor and sufficient reach starting at acceptable wide. The slow speed of the lens doesn't concern me as most poor light shots I take are of stationary subjects.
The other 1" compacts are lacking the range for me: Sony RX100 series (28-100mm or 24-70mm equiv) Canon G5X (24-100mm equiv, too bulky). Panny's FZ1000 is a freaking monster of a camera.
I think my HZ90 will get retired. Once the novelty of the incredible zoom wears off the the image quality isn't as good as my 5 year old old Panny TZ10.

Just as an aside it's not just about the picture; I also enjoy taking the picture. I like fiddling around with settings to get the picture I want. I used to have a Nikon P7100. It was crammed full with tactile dials and buttons. Lots of customization for such a camera at the time. I so liked the feel of that camera! The fact that I hardly used it is another matter
You certainly can do a lot with a 1 inch sensor if you don't need DOF control or high iso.

I would always choose the narrower range.

Like fixed lens Fujy or Sony (more expensive).

I like a 6D and pancake lens as a compact camera.

lol. I'd love to see the size of your pockets.
Speaking of Sony I think this clip is just crazy. Mind boggling.

I did a 200km trail with the 6D combo. It's not pocketable, but it's a nice compromise.

Sony is really amazing.

Hello everyone. I am still fairly new to photography, but I have always loved and appreciated the art. I just recently took this picture of my car with my a6000 and the 18-50 kit lens. I think it came out pretty nice.

I have been wanting to add a prime to my collection. Is there a particular lens that you all love to shoot with? My primary subjects will be my car, plants, and scenery. Oh and I do already have a 55-210 zoom.

Welcome! I absolutely love my Tamron 70-300mm f/5. For close shots I have a Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 which is quite good as well. Best purchases I've made since getting a DSLR. I have a 50mm prime but I don't use it.

The 17-50 lens had me intrigued because of its wide aperture, but sadly Ive only found it in Sony A mount and not E mount. I do have my eyes on the Sigma 19mm f/2.8 or the Sony 35mm f/1.8 but not sure which I want to splurge on. Damn cars, cameras, and computers 3 really expensive hobbies that I have decided to adopt.

The good thing with Sony are the Zeiss lenses.
With an apsc I would start with a fast 24 or 35mm.

On full frame I mostly use Sigma 35A and Canon 85L.

I shoot prime 99% of the time.

You can buy used. Camera stuff is super strong.

You need to use a good processing software. I love lightroom.

As far as tiny, versitale cameras go, I like the TZ100 a lot. Still, I'd be willing to give up a little bit of size and zoom to get back more sensor, better low light performance and lens interchangeability. Take a good look at the other Panasonic Tiny Cams.

First the Panasonic LX100. The lens is unreal, the form factor is jacket pocketable, and pros seem to love it.

Also take a good second look at Panasonic GM1, GM5 or GF7 Micro 4/3rds w/Pancake lenses vs the TZ100. I shoot Micro 4/3rds and they're a good bit better than the best 1" cameras on IQ, Dynamic Range, DOF, and versatility.

It is a really really small body. Once you stick a lens of any reach on there it loses some of its appeal.

I have ordered a TZ100*. I shall report back after it arrives.

*I don't understand why this camera has 5 different model numbers depending on which part of the world you buy it in. There is TZ100(UK),TZ101(Germany/Europe), TZ110(Australia), ZS100(US) and TX1(Japan).

I have analysed at a lot of my photo folders with ExposurePlot and something like 92% of my pictures are taken at 80mm equiv or less and 60% at minimum focal length (first blue graph). I'm not sure where my obsession for reach comes from. One of my early (film) slr had a zoom lens of 24-85mm and I never thought I wanted more zoom. Ahhh, to be spoilt by progress.
