whats so special about the twins?
i lusted after the twins from the time they were announced in 2012 and finally had the opportunity to purchase a brz earlier this year after considering things like the ecoboost mustang and bmw 1 series. after some miles and a decent amount of back/country road driving im beginning to be able to define exactly what makes these cars so special.
i've driven cars before that are fast - that feeling is pretty intoxicating. there really isn't anything like for example being able to mash the throttle of a 380hp svt lightning and hear and feel that beast of an engine get that big truck up to an insane speed REALLY fast. we unfortunately don't get to have that feeling in our twins. what we get instead is a car that actually feels like an extension of your self. now, i can be driving a windy country road at pretty much the speed limit and place the car exactly where i want to exactly how fast i want it to. there is no need to hit the brakes into a tight bend, i just steer in, steer through on throttle and hit the gas out and it follows the exact line i envisioned in my head, repeat and repeat and repeat. on most cars, that delay from when you turn the wheel and the car starts turning and the body roll when you do make it feel numb and disconnected, like something that you fight to get through the turns. but the brz's quick steering and balanced chassis make me feel like im literally part of the car. this is intoxicating in a whole new way. it makes me want to dig deeper and understand my own limits as a driver instead of pandering to that primal rush of just going fast as fast as possible. it turns the world into an accessible track at a humanly relatable speed out of a car that a regular person can afford, and that seems pretty damn special to me.

Yes, the handling is what makes this car special. One of the sole reasons why I got the car. Sure I could've gotten an STi or Evo with tons more power. Was even looking at a rhd 93 Supra TT. But the handling, most importantly, the lightweight of the FRS is what did it for me. The chassis and design are excellent and all will complete it is another 100whp (I knew this before buying).

Yes..its all about the handling. I have never had a car that tracks so true on the road..no wandering. Just point and go! |

I'm tired of explaining this to people. I guess driving experience isn't a thing as long as it can blow anything away from 2nd street to 3rd street. When people spend most of the time in a grid square city "driving experience" doesn't exist. If they want comfort they buy a sedan. If they want light to light they get a v8 stang. Or buy a shitty 91 civic and throw a v12 in it.
Luckily I live 10 miles out of a town and roads are awesome. Or on job and on a road and like oh man I'm going to come back here with the car.. People like what they like. And oh how many times I've argued with a teenager on fb about his rice burner Honda he's spent every dime on living at home to beat everyone 100ft at a time.

Unless the person knows nothing about the car, I've stopped explaining what this car is about to people. Not worth my time and effort into telling the person that I don't really care about going fast from stoplight to stoplight or bumper to bumper. |
