What Header for Performance
Hey,
I am sort of new to the mod scheme of the BRZ, and I am looking to replace my stock header. So far I have done exhaust and that really it for mods. ANy suggestions on what header to get. What I am looking for in header: - maximum performance/ HP gain/torque increase - sound increase doesn't matter because My current exhaust sounds good enough - reasonable pricing because I am not loaded Thanks for your help |

Well for my tastes the N1 is too loud with a header but that's all personal tastes and local laws.
EL is equal length runners on the header UEL is unequal length runners on the header. Here is a good place to start. Header & Overpipe compilation thread http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81491 |

The consensus lately is to get the ACE Header. They seem to provide the most hp/tq for the header. However, to maximize these header along with any other header you would need a tune. Appears that the only tune at this time that will maximize the gains of the ACE header is the Ecutek tune.

Their is not rearly much difference in catless EL/UEL just pick your sound you like UEL gives the boxer rumble. For the street UEL usually give a bit more midrange so its usually better where your using the engine most For arround $700 you can get a good EL/UEL header Tomei Gruppe-S Openflash OFH or similar you will get about 20hp gain with tune Or if you want the best performance probably the ACE header but its arround the $1400 mark maybe 5hp over the others Whatever header you get your going to need a tune, else most of the gain will not be available and you will throw CEL code P0420 you need to look at a header and tune package. for cheap tune your looking at an Ecutek Flash and Go tune (canned ) tune these are about $600 (Ecutek licience plus tune) IF you have a local ecutek dealer to flash the tune. If you dont your up for another $400 for a cable to flash. Other option is the Openflash Tablet, device to flash tunes that comes with a selection of tunes for EL/UEL 91/93 fuels and E85 fuel. Its $500 and you flash your own tunes whenever you like. They do a Tablet/tune and header package for about $1100 if you want uel header http://openflashtablet.com/Automotiv...OFH/index.html unless you have a quiet catback any catless header is going to be quite loud, if you fit a header be prepared to put your stock catback back on if its too loud, the stock catback is not restrictive, it just does not sound the best but it is quiet. you can then sell your aftermarket catback to recover some money |

If you want the best bang for your buck, gut the cat out of your stock header. If you want the best performance, you want an Ace 4-2-1 header. Don't forget to budget for a tune, or you'll only really get a change in sound with a minimal change in power. You need the tune to prevent a CEL, and maximize the gains. |

13.5 is damn impressive. Are you on slicks? Very cold weather? I'm in Florida so it is warm even now. Edit: I see you have gears and slicks. That's probably making the difference. Agree? Since I can only do a 2.2x maybe 2.15. Last edited by stevo585; 12-24-2015 at 10:54 PM. |
