I pulled an inch long thorn out of my thigh the other day. I had what I though was a zit, then an ingrown hair there for probably about a year. The other day, I got my wire cutters and needle nose pliers out and went to town. What a satisfying feeling to not have an immense surge of pain every time any amount of pressure is applied there.
Oh, the joys of doing pipeline work in areas that aren't cleared of bush. |

Well, that was like a splinter, so no harm there.
But, since you asked, I'll answer your question with a short story... I was working near Calgary, Alberta this past year for about 3 weeks. Right on the property of the Bar U Ranch (Fun story is that The Sundance Kid worked there after he gained infamy as an outlaw with his buddy Butch). Anyhow, there's a bunch of barbed wire fences (Classic farmland, amiright?) and this is nothing new to us.We climb over fences, cross rivers up to our arm pits while trying to keep our equipment safer than ourselves because the consequences of having kit damaged are far more dire than damaging ourselves, but I digress. Twice in one day there, I cut myself pretty badly, once on my calf, another time on my thigh from climbing over barbed wire fences. At the end of the day as I was getting into the shower, I noticed a pretty big amount of dried blood around both spots. At this point, I started freaking out a bit because the last time I had shots, I was maybe 15 (9 years ago), and that was boosters in preparation for tropical vacations, no tetanus shots. So, I said fuck it, the shower can wait, called my mom in a bit of a panic and asked if she had my immunization records. She called me back about 30 minutes later and told me my last tetanus immunization was when I was 10 or 11 (or whatever the normal age is for that). I then called my boss and asked if I'd get paid to go to the hospital for shots. Short answer was no, I wouldn't. Four months later, no lockjaw. So, short of the long, yeah, I'm good bro. |
