Not being a resident in our former colony, how exactly do you guys go about getting driving licences? Over here in gods country there are two types of drivers licence, one that limits you to driving automatic cars only, and one that allows you to drive both. Depends which car you learn and take your test in. To drive a manual you are taught clutch control, and appropriate use of the handbrake, something which seems to be a crime on this forum?

It also seems that you are taught to drive automatic and then allowed to jump straight into a manual without any further thought? Not having any dogs, just a genuine question and an observation.

Interestingly enough, in 2013 the number of road fatalities in Canada was: 1923 and in England, it was: 1713.

Not too far off each other. Though, with 20 or so million more people in England than Canada, that does make the "per-capita" number quite different. But, then there are other things like adverse weather, the expanses of horribly patrolled and remote as fuck areas of Canada, which England doesn't exactly have.

I did an almost cross-country drive, and for a stretch of it, I saw at most 20 other vehicles, and I had no cell service for around 8 hours... If I got into an accident and needed care ASAP, I'd have been a goner. Are there examples of that in England? Considering you can get across the country in less than 10 hours (Porthcurno to Burwick-Upon-Tweed), I doubt it

We have a single license for both with no control over clutch education. You can drive automatic for the test then drive a manual home. The guys complaining about the hand brake are either elitists or pointing out it's "technically" not right but acceptable for learners. If you Google it, most every website suggests using the hand brake on hills until you can manage without it. Since it doesn't affect anyone but the driver, I feel it's ok for everyone. Whatever it takes to stay safe.

They mighta done it without the US only if Germany procrastinated invasion of britain until the Russians started rampaging, then itd be too late. But the allies needed the US for man power and it's ridiculous production capabilities
