I didn't want to post in that thread, so I'll post my opinion on this. Does it really matter? As long as you don't roll back, use handbrake, clutch or just brake and go, who cares. If you use handbrake, it might snap the wire? If you use clutch, it'll burn the clutch quicker? If you use only brake and gas, you're pro? Who give a damn.

Someone use handbrake on uphill, so tease that person? That's like saying, someone isn't using heel and toe to slowdown/downshift. We invent tricks to improve OUR driving. Clutch kick, handbrake, heel & toe, left feet braking, trailbraking and on & on.

My point is, if you need handbrake to start in uphill, go for it. If you use clutch to start in uphill, go for it. If you don't need neither, go for it.

I use the clutch on small hills and the handbrake on huge fukoff inclines like some of those hills you get in san fran. I live in Houston tho so not an issue
