Looking for repair manual

Does anyone know if a bonafide repair manual exists for the BRZ/FR-S? I'm talking about something like a Chilton's manual that actually tells you step-by-step how to do things, with torque values, etc.. I have downloaded the "service/shop manual" in .pdf format. It's good. Certainly better than nothing. But it doesn't cover everything. It isn't a 'one stop' resource for maintenance/repair of these cars. Example: I installed aftermarket front coilovers yesterday. Nowhere in that .pdf file does it tell me what the torque values are for all of the nuts & bolts I had to remove, nor does it give me the step-by-step directions on how to replace them the way a true service manual would. (Yes, I was able to find the instructions and torque values here after searching.) I'm sure the mechanics at Subaru & Scion/Toyota use something better than that .pdf file. Does anyone know where that manual is, the one they use? Could one of our Subaru/Toyota mechanic members tell us where/how we can buy it?

I've done a Google search for 'Chilton's' and 'Haynes', but have come up empty so far.

So far, someone on this site has always had the answer to any questions we've had, but it sure would be nice if we could have all of those answers in one document and not have to go searching for them whenever we want to perform service on our cars.

Toyota uses tech stream. You get a login/password if you work for Toyota, I got one when I was going to school for the Toyota t ten program. I think you can download it and someone has figured out a work around the login so basically anyone can use it.

I don't think our cars have been around long enough / are popular enough for Chilton or Haynes to bother creating a manual, although I agree that this would be a welcome addition to the "shop manual" and online sources.

When I don't have the torque value for a bolt, I usually look up the standard torque value for a bolt of the given size. If it is not a "mission critical" bolt, I usually am just satisfied with turning it "good'n'tight" or "good'n'snug".

At least from Toyota, I understand that the service manual is available only online via subscription. I hope to be proven wrong because I would much rather pay a great deal of money once for a hard copy than be slowly bled for the privilege of occasionally accessing some online docs.

This was my experience as well...

I went to my local dealer a week ago and parts counter guy told me they don't even have a part number for a service manual. I, too, would prefer to have a hard copy. I paid $1,100 for the set of service manuals for my Yaris, five years ago, so IF they do come out with a hard copy, I know it will be big, BIG $$$$.

So, plan b is to figure out how to get a subscription, download the entire manual and just print the whole damned thing out...

Over the years, Chilton and Haynes has gone downhill so badly that I don't trust them. But now I may have suck it up and buy a Haynes, if and when, they make one...

Same same. Years ago, we bought my wife a gently used 03 Camry. Later that year, my Cristmas present was both volumes of the factory manual. Same price and worth every penny.

I spent $15 to get a toyota techstream login for 3 days just to get a TSB printed out that no one else had yet and to upload for everyone to the forum. The dealer uses some built in PDF viewer within tech stream and it's way more technical than any chilton or haynes manual I've used. Honestly for know I hope if anything comes up the DIY guide can supplant your needs.

You asked for a Haynes or Chilton's, which are crap. I gave you a link to a 5000+ page FSM in multiple formats. It includes exploded view diagrams of the front and rear suspension components, along with torque values for the components.

Not the 172 page "Service Guide" that is linked to in the first post of this forum.

If you are looking for a basics of working on cars, that is something completely different.

The FSM IS what the pros at the dealer use, as you requested.

This took 30 seconds to find in the PDF I gave you a link to - what more are you asking for?

Actually Adam, please forgive me. I went back and read the OP more carefully. I too downloaded all the PDFs long ago and just thought he was looking for the hard copy.

It really is the best resource so far.

Adam -

Please forgive me. I thought your link was to the shorter, much abbreviated "service manual" that we've all seen before. The doc that you posted the link to is exactly what I've been looking for.

Thank You, Sir.

(Someone needs to post this true Service Manual where it's easier to find, and change the nomenclature of that other "service manual" to something less misleading.)
