Yes, good advice.

There are throw away and not worth it corners at every track as I like to call them. We are doing this for fun. No one is getting paid or making a living at a HPDE event. Understand what the not worth it corners are and don't bother going 10/10ths through them.

Wow that sucks, hopefully we will get more insight on how it happened as to prevent it in the future (for people who track and know people who track)

Don't really track so I don't know much about crashing but you say one should not try to recover if going off track and just hit it straight (figure ther reason being there is better frontal/rear protection than lateral for both driver and passenger in the event of a high speed crash?)

Absolutely. They tell you this during each drivers meeting along with a description of a proper point by, but it seems to fall on deaf ears more frequently than not. Not saying that's what happened here though...

One reason being that your wheels will dig in the soft sand/silt/dirt and induce a roll over more easily... amongst other reasons

If you go off, you point the car straight into the dirt as best as you can. Here's a situation where one of the AWD drivers lost it at the exact same spot as Ivo lost it at (and possibly almost identical on how he lost it). While the driver didn't leave the pavement, he chose to attempt a save at around 115-120mph and essentially lost control of the car. If the driver simply backed off on the throttle progressively and let the car car unload the lateral forces towards the rightside of the track and off in a straightline, he will actually get sufficient control to hop back on the pavement smoothly and be on his way...he might be around 30-40mph by the time he gets back on. Many of us have gone off the pavement at the exit of the esses but have gotten back on relatively far from the point of exit at a much reduced speed.

You can see the S2000 driver (one of friends) figured out the best way to leave the track. The STi had around 400whp and our buddy had around 320whp. Exiting the esses they were traveling are well above 100mph at that point.

This was also an Extreme Speed event as well.

Guys be safe out there. I have only been tracking for a couple months now but this is a great community and it is tough to see things like this happen even worse when they leave behind kids like this.

Make sure you soak up the lessons and the tips in this thread. I will certainly be buying window nets after what I have read this morning
