If you are considering a Honda Insight instead of this car it seems you are wanting it for, well, I dunno why you would shop those two cars lol

Call around other dealers and look for BRZ premium as well. I was tired of my Subaru dealer giving me NO information so I found another one that was honest and bought from them. Funny is they called a few days later that they had the car and seemed confused that I bought one and wanted my deposit back.

The dealer/salesman job is to communicate with the customer. If you feel they are not doing their job take your money somewhere else.

As most have said, get your deposit back and deal with a completely different dealership.

Best advice that I can give you (which was also given to me), is to cast a wider net. Be willing to go 30-50 miles for the car. Of course, make sure they have the car on the lot and get some basic numbers (ensure no markup, etc) before you make the trek out there.

When you get there, find someone and ask for the car. Look at the sticker price and make sure everything is as was mentioned on the phone. Many dealerships add an 800-1200 "package" that includes nitrogen, detailing, and whatever else. Tell them you do NOT want it and do not want to pay for it. They may try to tell you they do it for all cars, ask for a manager and explain you do NOT want it and do not want to buy that with the car, you only want the car (and whatever options it is).

Do realize that you won't be able to negotiate the MSRP + manufacturer's options really. Sure, you can try, but don't expect to get the car below MSRP yet. The car does come from the port with various options from Toyota, that's just how it is. If you don't want the options, you don't have to get them but you also won't be getting that car on the lot. There is a limited supply coming in and while the car isn't supremely rare, it can be difficult to find the color/tranny/option combination you want until later this year.

FR-S > Insight

That would be a foolish move that you would regret in my opinion. Yes the dealer isn't the best, but you'll be happier in the end when you get YOUR car, made for YOU.

The FR-S is a beautiful car both inside and out. I assume if you're shopping it with the Insight you're thinking about maybe going green (mileage) or possibly room for more than just two. The AT FR-S gets great mileage, so if MT isn't a must for you, I'd go that route if you want better mileage. As for seating more than 2, the FR-S might as well be a roadster.. I think they made it a "coupe" for insurance purposes honestly. You aren't fitting people back there unless they're quite small.

you have a bad DEALER experience, SCION has nothing to do with any of this.

My dealer was always upfront on the fact that they didn't know anything, did not promise anything, and would return my money for any reason should i decide not to purchase the car.

So before you start crying and arm flaying, realize that dealers are private enterprises that act as retailers, and could do a large number of things without SCION's consent, such as promise you stuff and take your money.

Get your deposit back, don't get a Honda Insight instead get a Golf TDI and be happy.

Wait 3-4 years and pick up a used FRS/BRZ or wait until improvements are made. Don't spend your life upset that you dont have this car. It's not the end all be all.

Yeah, +1.

Sounds like a private store, vs a corporate store.

You would never get a bad experience from Corporate stores, unless of course it's the sales consultant.

That sucks about your story though, get the deposit back, and gtfo while you can!

Insight? That is a totally different car. I think the first thing you need to do is figure out what it is in a car that you want. Test drive a bunch of cars. If gas mileage and practicality is a big concern, look at something like the Mazda 3 with Skyactiv. They are fun cars (not FR-S fun, but still fun, especially the hatchback) and many folks are reporting 43-45mpg on the freeway.

But you really should drive an FR-S before you commit to anything and find a dealer that will work with you. As others have said, get your moneyback and expand your net. It seems so knee-jerk to go from an FR-S to an Insight...

I appreciate the intention but IMHO Scion "has nothing to do with any of this" by choice. It's an easy out for them. However, even in this type of retailer/franchise situation, the manufacturer can set the rules if they choose to do so, and they can take action based on their retailer's customer service or other behaviours.

For example, in my case as a 1st86er, I tried to change dealers because my dealer was charging a frankly offense doc fee ($599). My only connection to this dealer was it was the closest to my home and popped up first on the application. Scion (Corporate) would not allow me to change dealers even though I was completely unhappy with my dealer. They could have, they chose not to.

In the end the dealer treated me well, although I still had to pay the fee.

There's a hot lava sitting on the lot at Centennial Toyota just a couple miles from my house. It's MT with the rear bumper protection and $250 window tint. No other added market fees. Just fly out here to Vegas for a $100, buy it, and drive home over the next 2 days. Easy.

I mentioned that to my dealer when I saw his doc fee of $55. His response was "That's a lot of a fucking paperwork. They better be making you sign like 300 pages for that price." $599 is just insane.

Honestly, all my excitement for this car has completely evaporated, at this point I could really care less. I'm just so mad, I had a feeling when I ordered it that something would go wrong; and everything did. I guess the moral of the story is this: Scion is a cheap brand with dealerships that do NOT work with younger clientele, nor do they give people such as myself any respect.
Honda Insight?!?!?!! Come on man!

You really don't want an FR-S if you are looking at a Insight!!!!
