Second Service

Just bought a 2013 FR-S 10 series with 45k miles that hasn't had its second service. Since I need to put winter tires on and get some other work done, I was wondering if it'd be okay to put this service off a little longer. What do you guys think?

You are saying that it has only had its first oil change (due somewhere between 6k-7.5k miles) and nothing since? If so, I would be a little worried about the long term consequences of this lack of maintenance.

That is a long haul with out an oil change. The good news is that the synthetic oil can last much longer then the old stuff and you are not likely to suffer too badly. The bad news is, that is still a bloody long time to go without a change. If you bought the car from a dealer you need to speak with them about why it wasn't changed and what they will do about warranty coverage. If bought privately you will have issues if you need warranty work related to oil.
Oh and get it changed ASAP

I'll need to double check, but I'm 90% the oil was changed regularly. Just hasn't had the full second service done, i.e. the service that costs around 600 bucks and comes in at 30k miles.

According to my 2013 maintenance schedule, the 30,000 mile service includes:

* replace brake fluid
* replace cabin air filter
* replace engine oil & filter
* replace engine air filter
* rotate tires

So, at 45,000 miles, if you want to save some money, I'd suggest DIY and change the oil & filter, replace the cabin and engine air filter and rotate the tires.

Unless you live in a a humid area or up in the mountains or track the car, the brake fluid may be OK for a while longer.

I just had my car in for a 35k mile oil change (scheduled by the dealer).

I asked repeatedly - "are you SURE there is no maintenance due in the computer?'
"Are you CERTAIN that I am not missing any sort of periodic maintenance?"

I stopped short of actually saying "I am willing to give you some money just to be positive".

They changed the oil, filter, and air filter and said - "Nope you are completely up to date, but you will need your cabin air filter changed next time".

$600 is abusrd. At 15k miles it costed me under $100 to do the the 30k service listed in the next post.

I got the first service for under 200 but I did see quite a few people quoting the 2nd service at 600.

Buy all the stuff you need and DIY it. Takes about 2 hours.
