how does car transfer works ?
hello guys, so the FR-S I currently interested in is about 400miles away from my area according to cargurus.com
it has exact color and features that I wanted so I really have to get this no matter what problem is how can I actually see that car in person ? I obviously cant drive freaking 400miles to just see it in person you know ... so what can I possibly do here ? I have absolutely no clue how does car transfer system works neither how much it would cost me ... any tips or helps would appreciate it ! thks

Well you probably can't look at it, you just have to trust the guy who posted it and assume there will be scratches or imperfections that aren't listed. Get all the keys(I got mine thru a similar situation do I was in a hurry to get on the road, they said they'd mail me the other keys. They lied about having them then refused to fix it). If it's a newer car like the FRS and carfax checks out with no accidents you are PROBABLY safe to buy it assuming the above mentioned scratches and imperfections that won't be listed. Most of these cars don't have that many miles on them so should have plenty of wear left before things start breaking. As for cost, highly depends on state. You will pay sales tax, and all the fees associated with titleing a new(to you) vehicle. Title and registration will likely be several hundred dollars. Sales tax will be more. Check online for a tax title registration calculator

Car shipping costs can have an extensive price range. Not sure if you are buying from a dealer or private though. That would make a difference in what the transfer will cost you.

I don't know dude, if I can't personally test drive it I wouldn't do it. When I was looking for a new car I drove 300 miles to check out cars. Some FRS where noticeably abused others cars I was looking at had horrible fading paint like this G37 I liked. Looked great online but the paint was far from fine and had a loud knocking. Another one was a v8 camero in my price range but turn out it was a v6.
Like humfrs said you could get someone to checkout the car for you. I done that a few times on the mr2 club. Usually the cars where so beat up it wasn't worth it. Only one was. But it got sold locally and the dude missed it.

It was an ad on Auto Trader from a dealer in San Jose. When I got there saw the Camero. It was badgeless with SS wheels and SS hood. I asked the sales guy, typical answer, the other guys miss labeled it. Besides that it was pretty well over all but high miles. Lucky I was looking at other cars so it wasn't a huge loss of my time. Did test drive a 2015 Genisis v6. Big step up from a 2012 v6. But it was over my budget.

Sticker price was $34k. Fully loaded If I recall. At that price I didn't bother to haggle. Still would have been over my buget. Thinking about it could have been bait to get you to see other cars on their lot.

If they did that to me, I would have test drove the 2015 Genesis... and then bought it at another dealer.

If you're asking this question, I'm assuming you're talking about a car at a dealership. Dealers on the same brand, company or network can move cars back and forth through dealer trade, but it costs money to do so, so they may charge you a transfer fee to deliver the car to your local dealer. If you want to get it moved to you just to test drive it, you'll likely have to pay the transfer fee to get it there.
There's no one set process or cost, so you'll need to ask your local dealer how that will work or call the dealer where the car is located and ask them where in your area they can ship it. If they're moving a lot of cars around, it probably won't cost as much as if you tried to ship a car yourself. Personally, if it's just 400 miles and it's really what you want, I would just go there and test drive it. |

The way it works is you find a buddy or a relative to take you to look at the car. You bring green stuff called cash, if you like the car, you give the guy who owns it the green stuff. He gives you the title to the car, and some little metal things called keys, you put key in ignition, say goodbye and drive car home. It's not rocket science. |
