If you plan to claim any rights to the entries (like being allowed to use the image in a calendar you hope to sell,) I'd suggest requiring the entrant be the photographer.

It's an idea. It's not 100% sure thing ATM

This was my concern as well.

On the other hand, requiring that the entrant submit his own photo alienates a lot of people by giving the members who are professional photographers or well versed in photography a huge advantage.

There's a rights issue here, too. Unless if I was doing explicitly commercial work, I usually don't include permission for reproduction in commercial work.

There is also the whole issue of resolutions and formats that are suitable for pics the size of calendar pages. Obviously cell phone pics are right out of the question. The whole idea then turns from a car contest to a photography contest and many (most?) of us are again out in the cold. I guess there is no one "fair" way of doing this though.

I believe was discussed in the other thread, but I hope that CoTM doesn't dissolve into a money contest as well, where it becomes a contest of "who has the most negative camber," "who has the widest of bodies," or "who has the most super legit overpriced Jay Dee Em parts that took a third as much money as it is priced to make."

A mix of still shots, action shots, and creativity should be factored in.

This also popped into my mind:

As it was mentioned, if we were to require entrants to take photos of their own car, the would-be entrants would think: "That's not fair. This contest is for those who could afford all that equipment, and is isolated to those who enjoy photography."

However, if we were to allow entrants who did not take photos of their car into the contest, then the entrants who did photograph their own pictures would probably think: "That's not fair! You won by paying a lot of money for someone to take photos for you."

So there's a lot of variables to consider when doing CoTM. Or maybe I'm just overthinking things.

That's probably a good idea. For now, I want to see this start off as a harmless contest.

Will there be any prizes involved? I need to weigh my investment options.

I think it will get expensive if there are prizes involved. It should be a contest of bragging rights and a feature on the front of the FT86Club homepage if anything.

At current moment, no, other than you'll get POTM winner stickers... but later vendors sponsor this POTM and might get giftcards.

Yeah... cuz POTM stickers will be coming out of my pocket to get those stickers made. It's only $7~$10 per sticker per month, but I'm planning to make black and white options, so $14~$20 per month can stack up quickly.

As for featuring on the front page gonna be a bit hard, cuz only person have power over that is Hachi... BUT I do plan on making it as wallpaper for 86EXPO facebook group page all other social media.

lol will see. If shitstorm happens, I'll just stop. Technically, I don't have to do it. I just want to help excite member about something (both stocker & modder).
