Sounds like the crap being pulled at Toyota of Tampa bay. I went there and learned of their markup. Ended up saving 7K OTD at Sun Toyota. Waaaaaay better experience!

Those are scion installed tints (Toyota Southeast distributors installed) which are actually covered under the warranty of the car. I got the same ones and they cost the same. All his prices are MSRP prices from Scion. Also if the car you are looking at has a Bespoke unit then you have no option to buy the Bespoke unit with that car. Toyota Southeast distributors is packing most of the cars with the same options. My whiteout has the same options.
You forgot to add taxes and tag to your out the door price. Ohh and my dealer fees were 899.99 so your lucky. |

Dealer fee = extra money they don't deserve considering how little they actually do (they didn't build it, maintain it, or even drive it off the truck to park it on the lot), that there is already a mark-up over the car's "true" value (see further the Black Book, which is what insurance adjusters and the like go by) and some sort of commission. Also look into what incentive offers there may be for dealerships. Definitely haggle.
Everyone needs to take a deep breath before walking in to buy one and remember it is a retail item and will depreciate just like every other car. Fight for the best price -- they don't owe you and you don't owe them. Don't fool yourself into thinking they are doing you a favor by having it in stock and offering to sell it to you. Be patient, get what you want and get it at a price you are comfortable with. Don't like what they have to say, then walk out. Allegedly there's no wiggle room with Scion. Bullshit. Then haggle on the trade-in if you are doing that or haggle on the dealer's fee. Get them to throw in extra stuff like free maintenance or extras. Remember, it starts losing value as soon as you drive it off the lot. There's a back order, so dealers will talk tough now, but wait 6 months and see. Or if you are made of money/can't wait/don't care/too meek to argue/whatever, then ignore this and just pay whatever they ask. |

Well... dealer fees are crappy, yes, and do try to negotiate out of the dealer fees. BUT, if they don't, consider yourself lucky that they don't add the 4-8k "fair market value" crap that most florida dealers are doing.

To be fair, I am a bit of a terror in dealerships. I do tons of research on the car's value and variance in prices in different locales and my trade in value if applicable. I come with financing already approved (and remember to NEVER tell them how much you were approved for), and I bring the latest Black Book, which lists the true retail value of cars -- and never fails to make a salesperson turn pale. I also have no problem telling them when they are full of shit and no qualms calling them out on baldfaced lies. You don't have to be an ass (although its unlikely they'd turn down your business even if you are), but don't expect things to stay super friendly unless you are prepared to pay whatever they tell you the price is, no questions asked. And, BTW, even if negotiations fall through and you walk out, they usually call back with a counter offer by the following day. Again, people determined to buy the car the first week it is available may not have as much wiggle room, but the general rules of engagement still hold. And that "fair market" value is bullshit. Their goal is to make as much extra money off you as possible and your goal is to save as much as possible. Fair is all relative. Fair for whom? If I can afford a new car, and don't have to buy it NOW, I'd walk out laughing of any dealership where they tried to tell me an extra 4+ grand above the listed price was "fair". |

I agree. Which is exactly what I did when the dealer next door to me tried to pull this off with me. I even had the car printed out on the sheet with the price THEY had set on it on their website. I gave them a lot of shit for it, although I stayed cordial with the salesperson since I know it's not their fault. I told them that they lost my business and any future business with me though, since I refuse to buy anything from a dealer willing to stoop to such tactics to get extra money.
Unfortunately, it's not about the customer anymore these days. All about the money. As for the dealer fees, I would still try to negotiate that out of the picture, but for me, truthfully I wouldn't mind if they didn't get rid of it completely since I'm pretty excited about the car. |
