I had the stock muffler and midpipe in the car for a day and a half. Believe me I don't like driving with the seats down, even before the exhaust. I've thought of getting a trunk liner and maybe adding some foam on the inside of it. Don't get me wrong I LOVE the sound on acceleration, makes a small poping noise when you shift like an Audi S engine might.

While I have the meter out I am going to take some readings with seat in both positions as well. I personally don't notice a huge difference between up and down. I may be a tad deef though.

Tried something and unplugged the 12v adapter plug I had used to mute the sound tube. Somehow, and I can't explain it, the increased induction noise really improved the sound! Maybe the balance of induction and exhaust noise? Either way, I love it.

I have not forgotten this. Did some preliminary readings and quite frankly don't believe them so going to do a second set to verify. Will let everybody know what is what after that.

On the bright side, it seems to be quieting down (for now). It only had ~700 miles on it, maybe it needed a couple hundred more...or I'm just getting used to it (and loving it).

Yes but want to do again as it is way too weird to post. I am going to data log this time since I may have screwed up reading while trying to drive. If I posted the results I have now it may just confuse the matter. I will do a whole right up when I am done (and explain the weird part once I know if it was an error or not).

I'm actually really looking forward to this @Tcoat. I'm assuming there wouldn't be too much difference in going with the Sti muffler VS the TRD. I'm more interested in seeing whether it might have a settling in period where the carbon build up might mellow the sound out over time.

Well just to tide you over. It has dropped 2 decibels at 4000 rpm in a year. You will have to wait for the rest of the info as I need some time to put everything together in a coherent manner. There is a shitload of data and it reveled some very interesting things that I would never have guessed.

ok so 2 db is an insignificant difference. The wind changing direction could probably produce more than that.
