Only reason I would ever move on to another car would be if I wrecked it beyond my own ability to salvage it. Chances are if that were to happen, it probably wouldn't matter because they'd be picking pieces of what's left of me out of it.

I'm boring. I only got it because my wife and mom took turns badgering me about it. They saw a little glimmer in my eye, sunk the hook, and kept after me until I gave in.

I also don't buy into the depreciation angle. Not that I don't believe it but even after parts cost more than the resale value of the vehicle, DIY maintenance is still WAY cheaper than purchasing a new car.

Proper forever maintenance is also undeniably the greenest thing to do. That matters to me. I don't care if the engine or any other sub-assemblies including the electronics give out. I'll rebuild them.

Yeah. I've only had this car for a few months, and it's the car that I've had the least complaints about. My last car was supposed to be my last car for a while, but in the end I didn't like it enough to keep fixing it. It also didn't help that the problems that popped up were more expensive to fix than making payments on a new car. I had full equity on it, so it was an easy enough move to trade in for this one.

I don't see myself selling this car for space reasons or for utility - it's easy and cheap enough to run a beater truck or SUV to satisfy that. I'd still rather daily an engaging car than have more space. Unless if the next gen 86 is a hatchback, I have a hard time seeing myself getting rid of this car in the near future.

Like I said, I have a hard time seeing myself getting something else in the near future. I don't understand what's funny about hatchbacks. Am I missing something?

TRD hachi stabilizing pins like they have for the door would go far with that model.

I bought mine used from a friend of mine who bought it for his son. I really had low expectations for the car and here I am 2 years later being the 86th vote for keep it forever. The car is a virtual psychological patient on wheels. It has a different personality for whatever mood or application prevails.

My FR-S is a 4 yr company lease. I'm just over 1 year into it. I have the option to buy out my lease at any time. Here in 6 months is the decision point, though. If I want to keep the car long term, buying it out 18 months into the lease is best bang for buck. I can also buy out the lease, own it for one more year (per the buyout agreement at work) and then sell it. Or I can just have the remaining 2.5 years on the lease. Regardless, I'll be making some decision here in Feb... Likely after my wife test drives the new Mini Clubman. If she decides she wants that, I'll have to re-evaluate the fleet. Haha

I hung around at Nasioc for 7 years after selling my Subarus. That place used to be pretty cool, but it became a shit show the past 5 or 6 years, so I bailed. I do still check in at Toyota-4Runner.org because I'm between 4Runners.

I would definitely have preferred a hatch to the trunk. It would be nice to have the option of moving a large computer monitor without having to un-box it.

My goal is to keep the car for a minimum of 3-5 years... Hopefully it's still in great condition by then in which case I'll consider keeping it around for longer.

Only way I can see myself getting rid of it earlier is if I trade it in for another / newer FR-S or a BR-Z

I'm still here and it's almost been 3 years. My mechanic remarked to me also that most people he's known who had these cars sold theirs shortly after.

I'll have the car until either I wreck it, or some overarching circumstance makes me get rid of it (money, family, apocalypse). There are plenty of cars that I want to have over this car going forward, but I don't think I can just outright replace it until I've truly gotten to the point that I don't want it anymore.
