MT did an instrumented test of the 2016 Camaro SS:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...t-test-review/

The numbers look good:

0-60: 4.0 s
1/4: 12.4 s @ 114.6 mph
60-0: 104 ft
skidpad: 1.00 g
figure 8: 24.1 s @ 0.85 g

curb weight: 3,672 lbs (54/46)

If that curb weight is correct, that puts it at 214 lbs less than the last Camaro SS they tested. Not bad. Good to see a manufacturer actually deliver on their predicted weight loss (although it's still 900+ lbs heavier than an FR-S).

2016 Chevrolet Camaro

I maybe late but just got wind of this. Apparently the new model is lighter with improvements to increase handling. They are even offering a 2L turbo. Hmmmm.

Haha, really old news to me. I work for a GM dealer :p

They only made it a few hundred pounds lighter and if I remeber that is with the 2.0L option. It is going to compete with the mustang eco boost. People always bash on camaros for not handling (and they don't ), yet the Z28 camaro is faster around Nürburgring then a nissan GTR. (right from a GM training video) but it is equip with a 7.0L na V8 and GM's magnetic ride control. It also only has 1 speaker for the seatbelt chim so its street legal, and the rear glass is super thin so it is lighter because racecar. I got to drive one, and it is amazing.... but they are like $140,000 haha!

They started at 75-80k when they first came out, but are now down to about $60k since they have been on the dealership floor too long. Few people want to buy a dedicated track car, but it is an awesome machine.

I think you are thinking about the ZL1 camaro. That is the supercharged one that most people buy because you can get AC in them and its a streetable car.

No, I'm not. The ZL1's start in the 50's or low 60's, and have been the better seller because they are the more streetable car as you have said. Fifth gen inventory is being fire-saled right now. Here's a Z28 for $67k local to me. Sticker is $76k, right about what I had said for new. Camaro5.com members have reported seeing them as low as $59-60k depending on how long they have sat at the dealership.

(that one includes the optional A/C)

Huh? The Z28 maxed out with options and accessories is around 78k.

I'd buy a GT350R over one anyday, although I respect Chevy for making it.

Too bad the visibility out of the camaro is terrible.
