Yep, I'm not saying it's not knocking but there is quite a bit that can be done to prevent it with those tables. Stock doesn't seem to be "aggressive" enough for our conditions/heat and that's the problem with the "one size fits all" stock ROMS that Toyota expects to work for us and then with 95 too.

Even tuned you should be feeling a slight drop in performance in traffic if intake temps are getting high. With the recent heatwave up here we've been seeing 50+deg IAT.

By "inconstant" performance, I mean one day you will leave home and your car feels like a machine, pulling well, responsive etc and then another you will put your foot down and nothing will happen.
Sitting at traffic lights and pulling away, the car feels sluggish etc...this all mainly due to detonation on the stock tune with our pump fuel.
Yep same deal here on our 98 ron fuel, most stock tune cars will be running arround with the IAM at 0.7 or less.

it does depend on how you drive the car people who lug the car arround below 3500 and use heavy throttle movements in high gears will induce lots of low rpm high load knock, typical in heavy traffic, iam drops seen as low as 0.3 and ecu pulls wads of timing and car feels sluggish.

guys who rev the car a bit more and use lower gears and smoother throttle movements till revs over 4000 will see less knock highr iam and car feels better.

you can 'reset' you iam to as good as its going to get by doing some light steady throttle (say 15% or so) , runs from 2000 to 5500 rpm or so in second or third gear. jist let the rpm build slowly at light load. you need to do it 3 or so times.

these cars are most knocky in the 1500 to 4000 area on our fuel anyway (stock tune)

the ecu should not see knock at light loads so it increment iam back towards one.

0.7 is definitely on the high side compared to what I've seen, probably due to altitude. Here at the coast I see between 0 and 0.5 - @Phoenix* what do you see in JHB?

Correct from what I've seen, not just 86 specific obviously - seen this all on every Subaru we have tuned through the years, that's why with all our tunes, a lot of testing is done at high loads, high gears, aircon on, sudden throttle changes with the aim of zero knock.

I'm not sure what peoples obsession is to lugging a car, oil pressure drops, fuel consumption goes up and your car knocks to hell and back. Change gears (down) and let the car rev!

i was quoting for cars in Australia :-)

yes ones i looked at in south africia iam was arround 0.5 to 0.2 on your 95 ron on stock tune.

The fueling\ timing is same all round the world on all roms usa\ japan ect on brz\86 so it works fine on isa 93 fuels and some european 98 ron , but the tune is a bit aggressive for lower quality 98 and 95 fuels
