Where you do not put it (at least when plugged in) is on the passenger seat. It will trigger the seat belt sensors.

Since it works through electrical impulse instead of a mechanical weight activated switch it works better for all sizes of people. Unfortunately it thinks anything from a plugged in phone to a jug of milk is actually a person.

Used to put it in the slot next to the cup holders (Nexus 4), but new phone is too big (Nexus 6). Took the cup holders out and now it just gets thrown in there with my wallet and sunglass case. Really need to get an armrest now to keep things tidy. Quote:
It's very hard to sit with my phone in my front pocket (where it always is) and I'd break it if it was in the back pocket. Hell, I pull my wallet out too when I drive... |

im using spigen's magnet mount. its super thin so you can just slip it inside whatever case you use, but very strong. Just stick it on the AC vent and its right by your hand and in your field of view when driving. you can rotate it to go thru playlists, use the navigation, or have videos playing.

I'd say it depends on the weight of the phone.
Looking at the Spigen - it looks like the vent "fingers" are stationary and it depends on how thick your vent fins are - probably the thicker the fins, the more likely the fingers will hold onto them securely. I have this one: [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q3G8LPQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailp age_o06_s00"]Amazon.com: iOttie iTap Car Mount Magnetic Air Vent Mount for iPhone 6s Plus 6s 5s 5c, Galaxy Note 5 4, Galaxy S6 Edge Plus S6 S5 S4: Cell Phones & Accessories[/ame] Spring clamp "fingers" and rubberized contact surfaces. With my Nexus 5X + spigen thin hardshell (~136 grams), it stays in place, no problem. When I was rocking a Note 2 (183 grams) it regularly vibrated itself off the vent during canyon runs. The magnet stayed on the phone - but the fingers couldn't hold on to the vent. I'm sure I can hack it to stay on (put a little screw on one of the fingers so it hooks onto the back edge of the vent fin) but I'm lazy. The nice thing about putting it on the vent is being able to cool your phone during long trips with GPS/Torque on, streaming music/podcasts/whatever, cuz we all know modern phones get quite toasty. I cooked my HTC One to death because I used to have a windshield suction mount, so keeping my phone alive with proper cooling is very important to me. |

Thanks for the info. The iPhone 6S weighs in at 129g so it looks like it should be just fine, since you have no problems with the 5X. It's cheap enough to give it a try, and i don't mind modding it either (who am I kidding, I'll probably be too lazy to mod it too).
