I usually do a full spray down rinse, then use my foam master to spray down the car with soap, the rub the car down microfiber towels, spray down rinse with more soap, then just water. Then quickly dry to prevent the stupid air spots, use a carnuba wax and boom its beautiful. Wheels, and exhaust tips I do separately with a spray of wheel cleaner and a bucket. It takes time but its shorter than most other methods.

How often do you wax? After every wash?

yeah,

I hate washing cars. But the FR-S is small. Pretty easy to wash and wax. Spray wax that is.

I spray wax with turtle wax ice, after every wash. The carnuba wax is more expensive so I only do that to the car every 3-4 months, it's also more time consuming with that paste. Spray wax is super convenient so if I know I'm in a hurry I spray the car down and buff off that. Also I have a mother's clay bar kit sitting in the garage, might do that near thanksgiving and it'll keep the paint smooth the rest of the year. I make it a point to clay bar at least once a year.

Was wondering because I never really took care of my old car... I had turtle wax laying around but actually skipped applying it - will probably wash and wax in another 2 weeks when I wash again. I have friends who only wax a few times a year but typically keep their cars looking pristine...

I think I may pay the shop owner who did my opticoat pro application to clay my car next month. It'll be a year next month that I had the opticoat pro applied. I'm lazy to clay it myself. I wash and detail often as long as the weather is okay. Lately we've been having too many hurricane warnings that turn into tropical storms. I call it psychotic weather. I wax every other wash with Opticoat Spray Wax and also use Optimum Instant Detailer as well. The OID gives it a bit more gloss and slick.

Yup, I totally over due it, I heard its not necessary to do every wash but if your going to spend time to do it you might as well do it right with the best protection

This has basically become my random question thread...

Is there anyway on an automatic to display the gear the car is in when in automatic mode?

Right now car just displays a "D".

Negative, but you can pull on the upshift or downshift paddle to go into temporary manual mode.

Or you can quickly go into manual mode to peek then go back to full auto.

Bummer...

Next question, any tips on keeping car "clean" through NJ winter (other than don't drive it )?

(Really just looking to keep salt to a minimum - I was thinking I'd just wipe the car down with a moist towel / shammy every week since a full wash doesn't seem possible in the garage and I'd be scared of anything freezing)

Go to an automatic car wash and get the undercarriage sprayed

A touchless one! Many offer a card or pass that gives you several washes. I did mine once a week last year and have very little rust underneath (bolts and fittings that will rust anyway). Many guys will yell and scream it is no good (mostly from places that have never seen snow much les a salted road) for the car but it is way better then the salt and you can just strip off the spray wax in the spring.
