On to a closely related topic: ethnic drinks! My g-grandmother was from Hinterpommern, which is not even a country any more. The name means something like, "the part of Pommern that is out back". It was originally part of Prussia.


Anyway, they have a Christmas drink called "Feuerzungspitze". In English, "fire on the tip of your tongue." It is mostly grain neutral spirits mixed with a bit of berry juice. Cheap and a really fast way to get drunk. It's COLD up there on the Baltic Sea!!

Speaking of ethnic drinks, I loves me some palinka. Czechs call it slivoviz. My plum trees started to blossom for the first time last spring.
